I did my roof raise without welding. I cut the uprights at the middle of each window then put the extension hat channel to “spoon” or “hug” the uprights from top to bottom. I put silicone between the hat channel and then two 3/8 bolts and eight 1/4” bolts on each upright. On top of that there’s countless rivets holding the skin of the bus to the uprights which adds a lot more strength. It might not be as strong as a tank but if I wanted it to be I would've used 1” steel skin.

A few weeks ago I got blown around in one of the strongest wind storms I’ve seen, (it actually blew my side mirror out of alignment when driving head into it) Of course the bus was fine. The next test for its strength will be a hurricane followed by rolling the bus on the highway and down a ravine. It will way outperform any conventional motorhome guaranteed.
