I think on that series you have to hoist the engine to get the oil pan out.. seems like I did on my 1500 pickup when I needed to take the pan down to change an oil pump

I've already checked the prices for a small block crate engine - almost $8K! The small block (bare bones) is considerably less, but the accessories have to be moved over. This would involve new gaskets as well. Definitely labor intensive.

I have a '98 Suburban and according to the service manual, the oil pan *CAN* be dropped with the engine in place if it's a small block, 2WD. On the K-series (4WD), big block, or diesels, the engine must be lifted and/or skid plates removed.

Have ONLY had suburbans for last 28 years... Won't own anything else!
My 05 2x4 had a known defect with an o-ring failure where the pick up tube mates with the oil pump. Was able to drop the oil pan and replace o-ring and front mounted oil pump without pulling or lifting engine... But as I said its 2 wheel drive.

Owners of the newer Chevy trucks (Silverado) are mighty unhappy about the crappy A/C systems they got foisted with.

I have crappy feet- I used to get those ugly orthopedic shoes as a kid, and in the 70's they were nothing like the Chuck Taylor's I wanted.

They're more reminiscent of the Waffle Stompers we had in the 70s. These, however, are extremely comfortable and allow me a semi-normal gate, coupled with the Canadian crutch.

Yes, I can hit the go-pedal and hold it to the floor, assuming I can pay for lotion motion.

Ah, there's GOOD new tonite....

I found a 2002 GMC Yukon XL K1500 with only 188K on the clock. The owner wants $3500 OBO. KBB shows this beast should go for about $4K. CarFax shows nothing bad about it. The only thing I can see is to swap out the tires on it.

What say?

I'll sell you my '98 Suburban C1500 for less than that ... ~160K on it. Rebuilt trans about 2 years ago. I use my work truck for my errands, so I never drive it ...

PM if interested for details.

If I remember correctly, the Yukon XL is the same thing as the Suburban. The Yukon (Non-XL) is the somewhat shorter cousin, same as the Tahoe.

It's got some hi miles, but they hold value. We have no idea how crusty she is. Offer less in person w/ cash.

You know where I shop: Yukon

Past sales

Ah, I thought GMC called it "Suburban" also.
Nomenclature got real lame with cars and vehicles.

I have been told by several people: "Once you engine or tranny goes out, you can always get towed and park it forever and still live out of it."
My natural response minus profanity has been: "If I wanted a shipping container home, I would be living in one by now."

Sorry to hear about your rig and I hope it works out well and quickly for you.

I used to have a self-loading trailer. It had a diesel engine on it to run hydraulics for the tilting mechanism and jumbo winch. Military used them to move fully loaded sea containers. Was a thing of beauty- aluminum frame, disc brakes, air ride. They don't employ many bean-counters there.

GMC did call it the Suburban until sometime in the very late 90's, I want to say the name changed when the body style did in the early 2000's.
