School Buses Becoming Harder to Find?

Hello everyone. I'm a newbie. This is my first post. I've caught the skoolie bug just like you've seen so many times.

I've been looking around for used school buses and the pickins' seem quite slim. Maybe I just don't know where to look.

So my question is, are the desirable stock school buses with good pre-emissions engine/tranny combos becoming harder to find?

Thanks.

In about a month, there will be way more inventory as many districts trade in buses at the end of the school year and/or put them up for auction. I do think that pre-emissions stock is dwindling a bit but there's still plenty of them out there. Eventually we're going to start having to live with the emissions systems anyway as they're not going away.

lots of busses

The difference is in what I call desirable and what you might call desirable.

I own a 1954, 1958 and a 1994 bus.

Try govdeals.com for a start, just to have a look around. Stay away from the newer ones.

to answer the question, yes there are less good useable busses coming to auction.. the EPA grants under biden are going crazy so many districts are opting in to an EPA grant which requires destruction of the bus being traded in for the new "cleaner running" bus.. couple that with districts grappling with budget shortfalls due to prices rising on things like fuel, repair parts, etc.. some are keeping busses a bit longer than they might otherwise..

Thank you for the responses.

I'll try to be patient and will check out the gov auction site.

I'd love a 50's bus, but first things first.

And yes, destruction of perfectly good buses is a real shame. It's cash for clunkers all over again.

The name "Bill Carson"...reminds me of one of those old Eastwood movies, "The Good, The bad, The Ugly" (I think). Bill Carson was the name on a headstone next to where the loot was buried. Glad to see you're up and around

I remember something similar happening with the deal where you could trade in your used car somehow. I don't remember the details now. Cash for clunkers, was it called? It reduced used vehicle stock and increased prices for used cars and light trucks.

People were buy old cars for a few bucks and getting around $4500 for them towards a car they couldn't afford to pay for. Sadly, I missed that bonanza.

One name is as good as another. Not wise to use your own name.
