Great news

I found another bus. They have 20 available at $2900 in Brandywine Maryland. It’s a heavy equipment dealer and they provide a temp tag. Really nice people if anyone needs a bus on the East Coast. I’m going Friday to kick tires and hopefully take one home.

I had a good chuckle when I saw the 4 year newer 2005 with all the stuff we don't want is only $13K more than all the $2900 buses.

They were caught off guard that I was so excited to come look at these old busses. When I told him what I wanted it for he told me I could come test drive as many as I wanted and he’d take me out and help me pick the best running one with the least rust. They have a detailed condition report on each one. The one I want has 37,000 miles but a bad fuel tank. I’m hoping I can get them to get the low mile low hour bus together for me.

I seriously doubt that 17 year old bus only has 37k on it. It is extremely hard to find an old bus that has not had the odometer replaced. If it had that low of mileage the price would be much more, 37k is almost new.

I've got a 19 year old bus with 64k miles and 3300 hours.
If you watch the auctions, sometimes alternate buses come up with very few miles/hours.

If you were a dealer with 20 buses, 19 of them have over 200k and one has 37K , would you ask the same price? Or does the dealer do like all dealers and tell you what the odometer says without revealing till it's asked if it has had a replacement speedo, and it has 200k just like the rest.

call a vehicle delivery service if you don't want to drive it yourself..AUTO DRIVEAWAY, DRIVEAWAY services, etc...I bought my bus in Ohio from the internet and drove there with my wife to pick it up...drove to the DMV for temp plates and headed back to Illinois. Terrible rain storm with only one crappy windshield wiper and my first time ever driving a school bus...pretty nerve racking but I made it home with no issues except white knuckles...I think my elation of actually buying a school bus to renovate got me thru the other issues of getting it home....
Now after 3 years of weekend warrior work on the bus, we are just about ready to start our retirement on it..now my only concern is learning to tow and back up with a trailer behind the bus and my smart car on it...281 days to go (not that were counting)...

They could have swapped gauges. But the Freightliner gauges are WAY better than the IC gauges. Not nearly as failure prone.
The ECU would have the hours, miles, gallons consumed. IDK how easy/hard that is to find out. Chris would know.

I’m sure it probably has swapped gauges. I’m going to check them out and film the whole thing in typical Skoolie fashion. They’re responsible for advertising wrong miles though. I work for Toyota and the states are very aggressive about dealers having correct information. I’ll have them corrected the listing if that’s the case. There’s always the hope it’s the real deal. Or it could have 37k and 80k hours lol.

Looks like they have 2 or 3 with less than 100k. Good luck!!

Question still unanswered, if you had 20 with 200k and one with 37k, would you ask the same low price as the MUCH higher mileage ones? The answer is surely no, that bus has the same as the rest.

There are 2 or 3 with less than a 100k ON THE ODOMETER.

From what I gather they’re in varying states of disrepair and no one wants to buy them, hence the pricing. If I had 20 yellow 30k pound sleds that no one wanted I’d probably price them that way too regardless of mileage. A low mileage school bus that doesn’t run is still worth nothing.

A bus with only 37k on it should not be in any state of disrepair in a school system that does routine maintenance, another indication of speedo replacement.

1 picked up a ex-fire truck 1948 chevy with 14,000 miles and just found another 1971 GMC ex-fire truck with 21,000 ,which is getting a tiny house built on it .

Verified mileage? Are both odometers working? Those fire trucks don't put near the yearly mileage a school bus sees.

from indications, I have a 55 ford f700 fire truck with 33,000 miles, seems accurate from wear on the pedals, seat.

I had a fire truck with REALLY low miles, too. Was a 1975 with around 30k.
