Skoolie weights

Are there any buses that weigh under 26k GVWR and are not the mini types? I’m talking like the bigger busses like the international 3700/3800 or any of those dog nose busses?

Well, in the case of Kansas....... you dont need a CDL, but you have to test for a class "B" license.

Unless, you are using the bus for commercial purposes.

GVWR is what you are looking for as far as license requirements go if you aren't converting the title to RV status. Most full size buses have a GVWR of 27k+. You'll likely be looking for a mid size such as a school bus with wheel chair lift, etc.

Most states don't require special licenses for RV platforms.

What yours weighs and GVWR are 2 different things. GVWR is the maximum your bus can weigh fully laden.

Yup I get that.

Now because mine weighs 18,000 I could set the GVWR below 26,000 without any worries.

How do you set it below 26k GVWR federally only the manufacture can classify your GVWR you can’t change that yourself.

Ok here in Virginia when you register and get plates for a truck you set your max GVWR to what you want as long as it does not exceed the max the manufacture says it can be. If you are going to pull a trailer that weight must be included and should be listed as GCVWR, gross combined weight rating.

You are not required to carry as much as the vehicle can carry, just can not exceed it.

For Vermont tags there is no weight listed on my registration for the bus.

On my bus there is no GVWR on the manufactures id plate in the bus, or anywhere in or on the bus. I do find that odd, maybe it is old enough that it never had that info? I had to do a bit of research to see what it really should be just for my own desire to know.
