B10 / B50 numbers can be useful with the caveats above. Maintenance and abuse can be very key factors. A well maintained and treated engine can go well beyond B50. But it does at least give you an idea how long a given engine might be expected to last under normal circumstances. Or at least where you are starting from in the risk calculation. B50 as I understand means on average 50% will need a rebuild by then, under normal usage / maintenance. B10 means 10% will need a rebuild at that point.

How much a rebuild costs is another matter, and varies by engine. My understanding again is that "wet sleeve" engines can often be rebuilt with the engine in place, whereas others require removing the engine adding to the cost. I believe the Cumins 8.3L is a wet sleeve design, but the 5.9L is not. I think the International 466 and 530 are as well, but maybe not the Cats used in buses.

Unfortunately B10/B50 info is not always readily available, but here are a few numbers I've come across online. As with everything on the internet, accuracy may vary.

Code:

Engine B10 / B50
International VT365 - / 300k
International T444e 200k / 350k
Cummins ISB / 5.9L 200k / 350k
Cat C7 - / 400k
Mercedes 906 - / 500k
Internation DT466 300k / 500k
Cummins ISC / 8.3L - / 500k
Detroit DD13 - / 1,000k
Volvo D13 - / 1,200k
Last two are not bus engine, more like tractor trailer engines just included for reference.
