Steering wheel upgrade

I currently have a giant 20 inch wheel on my 34’ Thomas pusher and looking to replace it with a 18 or maybe 16 inch version. It is a 3hole design and would I need an adapter fir horn and is 16 too small for a bus this size to handle turns??the current wheel is too big and jams my long legs.I know there are plenty of well experienced Skoolie afficianados on this platform so I would like to get your advice 😎

Truck

Look at steering wheels for heavy trucks. Should be a standard 1” spline.

I only wish I had a 20 or a 22 inch wheel in my DEV bus. I had that little 18 inch wheel..

I like ther IH S-series 20 inch wheels the best..

Hey Cadillackid: I understand that you are the Guru of BlueFire App: I have one that I am trying to use as a redundant gauge cluster on my iPad. My gauges weee broken and vandalized before purchase and I replaced them but my tach and water temp don’t work.conversely my tach and water temp do work on the app but oil pressure is not, but the gauge is working. I am puzzled on this as I took pictures of existing wiring and ordered the replacement gauges.my tach is a alternator source and the needle moves upon ignition which would indicate power but does nothing otherwise. My app idles at 700rpm.any words of advice? I replaced all the gauges bulbs but none come on. Is this controlled by a switch??

I went from the stock 18" down to a 16".......no issues with steering, and affords a lot more room for clutching my 5 speed, plus better sight-lines to my gauges. I have a 24' 3800.

Good point

The smaller wheel will give me leg clearance and a better view of the lower gauges.just debating of going as small as 16 inch with a 34 foot bus.

If it has powered steering like my loadstar then you could palm the hub, that bus I can pinky finger the wheel like a Cadillac.. but my dev bus is much stiffer

Forever Sharp steering wheels in CA. Adapter from the same place, I *think*......can't rightly remember.

That looks nice. Some of the big rig wheels just don't look good but i guess i am used to sports car wheels.

When a high-pressure PS hose burst some years ago soon after I had bought my bus, I was very glad to have a 20" steering wheel while I was manoeuvering it at slow speed into a gas station parking lot. It's VERY HARD WORK to use only Armstrong steering when you have no PS!

When you have a front tire blow out you will want the largest steering wheel made. Most large motor homes have small steering wheels and are very hard to control when a front tire blows out. I too would like a smaller wheel up front to give me more room, but I would prefer to have the added control with the large wheel.

If legroom is an issue lower the seat a notch.

Navi star out their gauges in the worst possible location esp for bluebird that has the large defrost duct going across rather than using separate defrosters like they did prior to 1995.

I’ve seen 20 inch wheels can you get 22? Do they make ‘em? My wheels are 18 and I hate them. Too small
