Surface mount deadbolts anyone?

Hi All,

I'm finding this model to be way useful.

I installed this for my front and rear doors. They come with both surface and right-angle mounting options.

Here is the amazon link, I got mine at a local hardware store.
Lowes didn't have them, weirdly.

Marc,

I was going to do it your way, but I wanted to know how reliable is the alignment of the bolt and strike?

Mount the unit, attach the strike to the unit, align and weld to the handle. Doing it this way required spacing the unit off the door to meet the handle. Because the handle moves there is a little bit of play to set the bolt if needed.
