The quest for more power!!!
Hello everyone! I’m new to this form but have been living on the road in my fully off grid 77 passenger bluebird. As I’m sure you all know, busses are not meant to go fast. They have enough power to pull kids around at maybe 65. With our current configuration our bus weighs, with our trailer 38880lbs. This is asking a lot out of the little 180hp 5.9 Cummins. When I bought the bus I personally swapped out the 545 for an Alison 2000 series which made the world of a difference as far as highway driving goes but let me tell you, hills are painful. I’ve been doing some reading on the edge comp and edge ez tuners. These specifically work with the data link, map sensor and an injection pump fuel delivery solenoid tap. I went ahead and purchased one specifically for a 98.5-2000 dodge Cummins and installed in. Sure enough, it didn’t work. I have the 2001-2002 edge box coming in hopes that one will work but I’m sure. I have heard of people using these boxes but I’m not having any luck. While the bus was marked as a 2001, it was manufactured in 2000 so I’m at the strange year where it could be one or the other in the eyes of edge. Has anyone installed tuners on their 5.9 Cummins? If so which ones? Not looking to blow the bank as I can easily just change injectors but I like the idea of being able to adjust on the fly. As far as supporting mods, I have done head studs, hx40 turbo 4” down pipe, mishimoto intercooler and a fass lift pump so I’m fairly confident a tuner will
Not hurt anything. Please let me know if anyone can help or if someone knows where I can send my ecu out to get flashed. (Canada is okay!)
