Too much rust?

Hi, I could use some advice. I know rust on the chassis is bad, but I don’t know how much is too much. Could you please give your opinion of this bus I am looking at to purchase?

That's all minor surface rust. A chassis is made from very thick steel and takes a long time to rust to the point where it's structurally weakened. Your big concern is rust in the body, which is the steel box that is sitting on top of the chassis rails. Your pictures show only the floor of the body, but there is little to no corrosion there. Although the bus is fairly obviously from a part of the country that uses salt on the roads, it looks like the previous owners cleaned the underside from time to time.

You may have rust concerns with the exhaust, which is expensive to replace.

The amount of rust on my bus makes this bus look pristine! And...although there appeared to be quite a bit of rust on my bus, my mechanic said it was all superficial and nothing to worry about. Btw...i have known him 20 years and he is very honest and knowledged. So IMHO you are looking good. Elizabeth.

Thank you so much! I am going to arrange to take the bus to a mechanic to get the rest checked out. I hope it will be good so I can purchase it and get started!
