Trailer Wiring, ideas and thoughts...

I just put a nice mount on my bus, and need to do the trailer wiring, what does everyone or anyone suggest how I do the wiring? On the bus that is. The harness is way down low, or up on the side chase for the lights? I am guessing that it shouldn't be to hard once I get the main bus harness, but have no idea what the wire colors are. Any help in this area would be a plus.

i wired mine with an adapter kit from etrailer.com. my wires tap into the harness right up front in the main fuse box and i ran a 7 wire harness down the frame rail all the way to the back.
the harness kit from etrailer.com included a cheapo 12v test light. that made finding the right wires to tap a breeze.

follow the harness from the rear into the fuse box and you'll be working with the right bundle of wires.

That's another advantage of a rear engine.... on mine all the lights are installed on the rear access door. I open it up and everything is right there. Tap into the wires, run them to the connector (which will be mounted in a hole in the bottom of the door) and all the wiring can be secured as well.

The typical light install method, not so much. Like was said before tapping in at the load center is probably the best way, then just run the bundle to the rear of the bus to the connector mounted in the bumper or on the hitch crossbar. Will need to go a little bigger on the conductors though, to overcome voltage drop in that length of wire.

Well, I just realized that my turns and brake are seperate in regards to a 7 pin out. Ugh... Adapter Time..... MEH. At least I have an adapter to cobble together... Oh well... Lights will be running tomorrow

There is a 7 pin schematic I found like is used on commercial trucks where the brake and turn signals are all on separate pins...
