Ah, sweet. All the goodies! My 66 has the kennedy clutch/pressure plate, too. I went mild with the cam- engle 100. Wishing I'd went with the 110.
I love the look of the old Manx buggies.

Here is one I did a paint job on for the local Art Car Parade a few years back. '63 PopTop (Big Logo) Westie as I recall. I do know the pop-up had been rebuilt somewhere along the way.

This was back in 2011. The bus has moved out of state but was still on the road last I heard.

Mine was a '66 as well, first year of the ball joint front end.

The T-bucket body...not sure the make. I was the fourth owner, and the only one to get it on the road. Imported from California to Ontario Can. in the early '70's....pretty rough when I got it [$500.]

Had a '69 bug I drove in the winter...
Ice scraper in left hand, shifter in right, steer with knees, snow mobile suit to keep warm.

The only thing I have left is a basement FULL of hot wheels, dinky, match box etc...

Yeah, the BJ front ends handle a bit better than the old link pin beams for sure.
I've got an adjustable "puma' beam from a brazilian vw variant. Came stock with urethane bushings and adjusters. Oddly- it has the earlier style spindles and the tie rods I'd bought and stored for 20 years have later large ends. So I'm gonna get a pitman arm with big tie rod holes and put small ends on the outers.

My 67 was just the stock white color. With some hippie "graphics" and a full set of deer antlers mounted above the windshields.

Got all the front end parts ordered (hopefully).
Now to find the PERFECT set of wheels!

I want to find out what/if 6.5" wide wheels will fit in the rear without rubbing. And I need to figure out what wheels/tires will fit the stock width front beam lowered 2-3".
IF I can get a meatier tire than a 135 up front then I will. Maybe a 145?

Have had it for 30+ years.

Pasture buggy that I scratch built using crashed bugs while I was converting my bus.
Front clip is from a 69 regular beetle, rear clip is from 71 super beetle.
All welded steel construction similar to an early EMPI buggy.
Wheelbase shortened 14" with mild, mostly stock 1600.
The wide fenders and running board, a treated 2x8, are extra wide so you don't wear or taste the cow pies....yeah, THAT kind of pasture...

My son and I built this one and he drove it to high school in early 90's.
Mild(reliable) 1776 with berg heads, dual pict 32s, header with heater boxes removed and other performance goodies.
And that whale tail!!

We found a nice clean 68 and did a mild restoration.

And numerous other buggies, Bajas, sand drag rails, etc. along the way.
I've never owned a Ghia but they're beautiful. Especially the drop top model.

My dad's first midlife crisis mobile was a red Ghia. Don't remember the year but it was old enough that the gas gauge was a lever on the front firewall that you kicked to access the reserve gallon of gas when you ran out.

By the time I got my learner's permit, he had moved on to a 1965 Volvo P1800, like this:

Had an electrically actuated overdrive. Really nice car.

That's the model of Volvo that set the world record for mileage.
IIRC it was at 1,600,000+ last time I heard about it.

Always wanted an old Volvo or Saab. But the VW's are just so simple. And they USED TO BE cheap when I was buying them!

Got a set of wheels/tires for the bug.

Got 4.5" for the front with some 145's and 5.5" for the rear with 195/65's.
Pics as soon as I get them mounted. They'll be here in a couple weeks mounted and balanced.

I've had a few VWs over the years. 2 62 7 window microbusses. One was a parts van.... A 65 Westfalia pop top, a 65 Baja Bug, and a 71 Sportsmobile Pop Top....

I miss the Sportsmobile the most. Fantastic conversion, True IRS rear end, built 1835cc engine, solid as a rock, reliable, and great gas mileage... But no air conditioning...

Well that all went WRONG. 3 of the wheels/tires came mounted wrong. Some bright individual out west thought the wide tires went on the skinny wheels and the skinny tires went on the wide wheels. And 3 of the wheels ended up being 5.5". They sent me another wheel. I had to go get the 3 remounted to the right wheels. Upon closer inspection one of the 5.5" wheels has the lug holes drilled pretty far off-center. UGH!

NEVER order stuff from CIP1. They don't even believe in the idea of customer service.
May actually have the wheels on the car today if the gods smile upon us.
The local tire shop only charged us $30!

Although I don’t have it anymore, this was my first Bus.

1961 VW Bus, Had the top on it when I got it, eventually I removed that top and put a homemade popup on it.

Inside was a bed, Icebox, and sink.

Had the 1200 engine and the gear reduction rear end, top speed 55 mph.

Had it from 77 until 90, sold it when I moved to Florida, wish I had kept it, lots of fun.

The wife and I went to the annual "Bug Jam" here in central FL this weekend.
Was really cool. I've been in the past but this was my first VW show in 20 years. Its crazy how the hobby is totally different now. What used to be a $500 car is a $6000 "project" now.

We've had our share of VW's, both air and water cooled - '71 Squareback, '72 Bus, '71 & '72 Bug (plus a few parts cars, but that goes without saying.) Changed the interior of the Bus a few times with Vanagon bits from a local repair shop. The only air cooled vehicle in our fleet right now is a '57 Isetta.
