What’s the best rust proof coating for rusty sheet metal?

Hey, everybody. My bus is pretty rusty and I don’t have a garage or carport I can keep it in right now.

What’s the best rust coating/ reformer for sheet metal?

I started to use POR- 15 but I think that is meant to use on undercarriage

Any suggestions?

Por15 is great stuff.

I convert it with ospho and then paint with an etching primer

Just plain old sheets of steel? Ospho.

It is sheet metal that would have been used in 1941. My bus is a 1941 Wayne.
No real rust through (except a few spots). I just want to get a coating on it to cover the rust before winter, and before I can get it into a garage or carport. I'll be painting it outdoors. Believe it or not, I used a paint roller to apply there POR- 15 and it worked pretty well. Thanks for any suggestions.

Note/Disclaimer: This subject is like asking what the best oil is to run. Totally subjective, and what works great for one might not work for you.

Here's my $0.02 for what its worth...
A bit pricey but it will be years before it rusts through after using it, try: Rustoleum Primer for Rusty Metal.
Used it for years on many outdoor rigs and if applied properly and allowed to cure before top coating, it really stands up well.

Rusotleum Rust Reformer. The gallon jug, NOT the spray. That's the GOOD stuff.

I have used Gempler's rust converter, then prime with rustoleum rusty metal primer then top coat. This has worked well for me, and is my preferred method.

I have used POR 15 with Bill Hirsch chassis black as a top coat. Not the poor mans choice though, but it did hold up well. This was on a 47 dodge, and I did sand blast it first.
