Who Wants to Talk Models/Engines?

Hello

Grover here!

I'm checking out a bus tomorrow that seems to be in the realm of what I'm looking for

but I also know nothing about busses

so is it really the right bus for me?

Here's what I know:

1) 1998 IHC 7.3L DT444E
2) Automatic & Hydraulic Breaks
3) 159,000km/98798mi

I've attached three photos as well.

Any thoughts?

The question is ambiguous because we don't know what your intended use will be.

Ah yes
right you are!

For simplicity sake my plan is to convert it into a livable space.
I like minimalism/simplicity so I don't mind smaller.

I'm most interested in thoughts on the engine
and if people have any insight into its longevity.

the triple 4 E is a great motor.. they arent fast but when taken care of live a nice long life.. they are a non emission computer controlled engine. I have one and love it.

often though lackluster transmission like the AT545 was paired to it.. you can get lucky and end up with a MT643 or MD3060 but its rare on a short bus..

Engine is good, transmission is probably the dreaded AT545, but if your plan is to build a self-propelled tiny house (SPiTH? - how about Mobile Tiny House or MoTH?) and you won't drive it often or fast or up and down mountains, it would be fine (and if it ever dies it wouldn't necessarily crush you financially to have it replaced).

I wouldn't want the hydraulic brakes, though.

How tall are you?
I would look for a high roof version unless you think a roof raise is for you.

Good luck,

Johan

And there you have it! The 444 isn't going to wow but in a short bus it'll be fine and easier than later electronic engines. Same goes for the transmission, as mentioned probably an AT545 which isn't preferred but probably fine in a short bus and cheap enough to replace if (when?) it dies. If you don't want to go fast or climb mountains then this may just fit the bill for you.

Just curious, asking price? Apologies if you said already and I somehow overlooked it.
