Just reading the title, says it's BLUE BIRD 87 SEDAN. Also says Gasoline under Fuel type, wonder if we've had a motor swap somewhere in it's life.

Did you try a lookup at Vantage? Should clear up any questions of what it came with.

Mistakes get made all the time. My recently purchased bus came straight from the school and the original title says Gasoline under fuel type. IDK how or why as the engine is definitely original and its definitely a diesel Cat.

Booooooooo! Might be worth a phone call to BB if you're really interested. I've got the build sheet for my TC2000 and I appreciate knowing its contents even if it doesn't have much practical use.

I have yet to run a VIN that told what actual tranny was in it.

In an All American with the 8.2L it most likely has an MT-600 series transmission.

The 8.2L is a sad orphan of an engine. They were not particularly powerful, almost none ever left the factory with a turbo, and all of them smoked when they got a few thousand miles on them.

Black smoke says not enough air or too much fuel. Make sure the air cleaner is clean and there is no obstructions in the intake. If it still smokes then ease off the throttle.

VIN decoders are different than the manufacturers info.. online VIN decoders are only good for determining the year, class and sometimes the engine...

when you contact the manufacturer, the line-sheet was loaded into their system so they have much more info.. the VIN to the manufacturer crosses to the Line-build .. an online VON deocder just goes on standard VIN digits and positions that the manufacturer normally used.. transmission, rear gear etc isnt coded into those digit positions.. engine code often is.. as is the Model year.

the titled Model year and Parts model year are often different on school busses.. esp conventionals that had separate chassis and body companies.. navistar says the chassis to my DEV bus is a 90 and the title is a 91 because it sat in carpenter's holding lot for a year.. build dates are almost exactly a year apart.. almost to the point that it rolled over a second year..

Had a call today on my ad from a Hispanic guy looking to buy the bus to take back to Belize. Seems the SOB's will even try to buy the ones they don't win at auction. Hoping that after seeing what they will pay for auction buses I may not drop the price due to the brake issue.

Hispanic guy calls me back and says his friend is interested and wants to make a deposit to hold it till he can arrive from out west in about 3 weeks. I tell him if I take a deposit and remove the ad, the deposit will be non refundable. He agreed and said thats how they do it on many buys. I asked how much would he deposit and he said $500. I made it clear if they show up and decide to not take the bus the deposit is non refundable and he adamantly agreed.
Sold

I watched these guys walk into a certain extra high priced bus dealer in florida.. I was there at the time.. just pointed out 10.. yes TEN! busses.. started the engines.. and if the bus started "take it!".. went after everything on the lot with a 466 or a 3126 in it.. never drove any of them... they told me he wanted them all in ft lauderdale at the shipping port in 2 days sharp... these guys want busses? they get busses

I bet those guys didn't pay the prices listed on that certain high proceed bus dealers web site! Probably have a predetermined discount.

For what BGA is asking, they could give a bus away to anyone buying more than one and still be making huge profits.

Ok, so I was premature, as I new , no one has shown me any money yet. Brake issue is definitely a factor. I may just scrap it after draining the 40gallons of fuel.
