On the way home from Georgia. Looooooong drive at 55 to Oregon. We’ve been asking on Skoolie.net how other folks have helped their AT 545 transmissions stay cool and performed better at faster driving speeds. We read you could add a transmission cooling fan to keep it around 120 degrees so the transmission will have a longer life. We’re thinking of moving to a larger size tire for a bit extra speed there. We also hear that the Cat 3126 can have the computer changed through Freightliner to have a little more power. The fan should cover the extra work we’re asking that AT545 to run at. We’re geared at 5.6 (or so??, beginner bus person here) and think we want to stick with that. Sounds like it’s a pretty good medium ratio for both highway and mountains. We’re in the Willamette Valley, so, to go anywhere east or west, we go over mountains. Lot’s of fun work ahead of us on the bus!
