before buying my bus, i have never driven a bus. but have driven diesel engines before. I would have to say both of what you have heard is somewhat false. Diesel engines are not that expensive to work on compared to gas, in some cases maybe even cheaper. The year of the diesels as for as easy to work on is irrelevant other than the fact that after '97 or so you get into electronics and it just makes it more to do. What you would want to look for as far as rebuild is the type such as wet-sleeve or not and if you can rebuild the engine without removing it. my Diesel Turbo Aftercooled 360 (DTA-360) is wet sleeved and can be rebuilt without removing the engine from the truck. pretty nice and would save A LOT of money if it ever came down to it. My uncle has a mack with a diesel in it and the odometer reads 900,000+ and that thing is older than a 95. do a good engine inspection before you buy, know what to look and hear for and your engine should last as long as you take care of it.

Hey man, I am actually considering buying the same model I think. Its a 92 International Harvester Diesel Engine Full-size bus. The thing is that there are a few things that were brought to my attention that I didn't really think to deeply on that I am seeking you for some advice. 1) Did you ever drive a bus before buying yours and what is it like driving the bus on a daily basis? 2) I was told that diesel engines are very expensive to work on and engines older than a 95 have a lot of problems, what has been your experience with this one? Any insight is appreciated.
