I moved here in 1986, tired of gloomy English weather and attitudes. I retired last June, so now I can finish my bus and do some fun bike rides, then I hope to hit the road next winter and fulltime until I get tired of it or the bus breaks or I kark, whichever comes first. I had been living in Norwich, plus some small Norfolk country towns, and even though I wasn't born there I consider myself a Norfolk boy; my father was born almost in Norfolk (in Lowestoft actually) and grew up in Aylsham, and he thought of himself as a Norfolkman, so why not me also? I certainly don't miss England as a whole, but Norfolk and East Anglia resonate strongest with me even now; listening to Vaughan Williams' Norfolk Rhapsodies or In the Fen Country will still bring a tear to my eye.
Was your family originally from eastern England? I'm very happy to find someone here who actually has heard of the Iceni! I think we may be an endangered species.
