Went and looked at a 1989 Ford 6 window bus today Automatic Trans. and a 6 cyl. diesel engine Started real easy no smoke . It seems that engine is a Ford 6.6L Called a Brazillan (Made in Brazil ) from 1985-1993 and used in med. 600 and 700 duty trucks . 170 hp at 2600 rpm, peak torque is 388 lb/ft @ 1600 rpm. When I drove it about 2-3 miles on a small country road it seem lacking in power and shifted slow. ( Perhaps I wasn't used to driving it ) . The owner of the bus did not know anything about the engine or what kind it was, Just a Ford diesel that seem to run ok but he though the Trans. was a Allison .??? The information about the engine I got from the Internet tonight. Does anyone KNOW ANYTHING about this engine ? GOOD, BAD, RELIABLE OR NOT, LONG LASTING OR NOT, WHAT FUEL MILEAGE ? .Thanks for the help..
