Hot Shot's Secret P040464Z Diesel Extreme Clean and Boost - 64 fl. oz.

Clean out the tank, lines and injectors
Remove free water from the system
Stabilize fuel, boost cetane
Lubricate the fuel pump and injectors
Coat the tank and lines with a rust and corrosion inhibitor

I wonder if that stuff cures cancer as well?

As long as the weather permits we're heading out to do some welding on both buses this weekend.
And should have the WC door seal ordered soon.

Some sort of light. Mine didn't come with the light, but it came with the impression left from it in the roof! :banghead:
Still, these are GREAT little shorties!:thumb:

Gerald at Midwest is getting our seal ordered and we now have a "Business account" with them so we can more easily order parts next time.

TO ANYONE WITH THIS TYPE WC DOOR-
This seal is a rare, obscure bit of unobtainium. Order one while there's still somewhere to get em, or figure out how to rebuild and reseal the door.
I asked if I could save any money buying two or three but he said no.
At least the elusive wc door seal still exists out there, though!
Having restored some old cars before, this seal fiasco makes me think buses are gonna be a huge PITA to find parts for in the future. Odd, coach-specific parts may be a real headache one day.
Heading out with eddie the welder to do some more stitch welds on the big RYO bus and we're also gonna patch the couple lil spots of rust on this shorty.
Finally a weekend to work on buses after mowing a thousand yards!

cadillackid 07-22-2017 09:23 AM

yes!!! BUS WORK!! I love weekends like that.. im lucky I got my transmission installed when I did.. its done nothing but rain here the last couple weeks.. like solid hours and hours of rain at a time.. and st pete doesnt look much better so i havent gone there lately..

I think with busses they arent restricted to the same standards as car makers.. or if they are.. , many less body specific bus parts are manufactured than are for cars.. im guessing door seals dont often get replaced.. - judging from the amount of water leaks in school busses by the time we all get them...

engines, suspensions, transmissions, windows, and the like are used by muktiple manufacturers and likely higher replacement quantities so they make those parts longer..

ie good luck finding A/C dash vents for a 1970 ford Van.. but easy to find engine parts..

We're gonna patch that rear butt cheek on the shorty, then do some more welds on RYO just for good measure.
I'm still going back and forth in my head about the rotten door bottom. Seems like an rv door could be had for what the stupid seal for the factory door will cost. That'll give me more "rv cred" for looking more rv-ish.
Maybe replace the wc door, rear door, AND service door with RV stuff???

EastCoastCB 07-23-2017 06:53 AM

Ok so after much pondering and sitting in the bus during a torrential storm, I'm finally made up my mind.
We're going to be paneling over the rear door and replacing it with a small RV compartment hatch and a small window. The WC door will be paneled over and replaced with the largest RV/trailer door that we can find to fit the opening.
THe $300 seal that's stupidly designed and ugly just wasn't sitting right with us.
The upside is this will make the bus more unique and more RV-ish.
Since the factory parts are unavalable or prohibitively expensive, we'll just customize!
GLAD I don't move too fast on my personal projects. I change my mind halfway through and am always glad I waited and pondered. RYO has been a long slow project, but I'm VERY happy with how its going.
Some folks like to throw it all together, some of us like to go slow and deliberate.

An idea I've kicked around in my head is finding a rusty but mechanically sound bus of similar year with a DT466e. Ideally I'd like to find someone who will swap engines in exchange for the other bus and the 444e. I wonder if that's even something that would happen.

EastCoastCB 07-24-2017 09:56 AM

well- the WC door seal ended up being ordered anyway, so I guess I'll be dealing with that.
The back door is definitely going to be reworked, though. Small rv door or even hatch door and reskin on the rear, for sure.
Onward!

Parts is spensive!

Make up your mind already!!

I'm ok with unique. Not ok with more RV-ish. Yuck. Your bus and your money but I want to keep mine as little RV (on the outside) as possible. The fancy shiny RV stuff on the inside is ok tho.:thumb:

I'm just gonna roll with it, however it goes. The parts guy who finally put in the order for that seal made the decision lol.
I'm not as anal about all this stuff as the average forum member. I don't even have a 3d bus layout! Or a floorplan.

Tango 07-24-2017 02:10 PM

I think a hinged at the top, flip up rear door with hydraulics would be very cool if it was tall enough to stand under.

A $300 decision he made expecting me to pay it. Um, ...

Tango has the right idea. After you get the flip up door, have Chris rig up the remote and sensor from one of the mini van doors... foot activated or something fancy.

EastCoastCB 07-24-2017 06:35 PM

Dude- I TOLD him to order it. It took him a while to FIND the part and he'd ordered it before I could cancel after I'D changed MY mind.
I'll just roll with it, I'm nowhere near as obsessive as the majority of folks on here.
Tango has amazing skills and ideas.
I'm more into KISS.

Ah gotcha. That's different than "I'll get back to you."

Mirrors

I was wondering if anyone knows where i can pick up a couple of side mirrors for my bus. I have a 1990 international 3800 short bus. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
