2020 Florida Skoolie Swarm Feb 3rd -10th

1 Attachment(s)
3rd annual Florida Skoolie Swarm. 40 buses and 20 other vehicles attended last year. Come hang out at the beautiful Doe Lake Campground in the Ocala National Forest. Not a show, just a gathering of current and future skoolie family. Except for the Saturday night potluck dinner there are no scheduled events although there are often spontaneous group meals.

Practice you're off grid skills. No power hookups in the camp ground, there are bathrooms with showers, a CCC era mess hall available, lake for kayaks or canoes, fresh water connections scattered around the camp ground. There is a Convenience store about 6 miles out. Join the Skoolie Swarm FB group for more information and discussion.

If you plan to attend please Email skoolieswarm@gmail.com with the subject "2020". Please include name, dates that you'll be staying, size/type of vehicle or if you are tent camping, facebook or instagram name, and number of animals or kids. The cost is $15 / night for the camping. You can prepay via paypal or pay cash at the campground.

We look forward to meeting you!Attachment 38991

Is there a charge for entry if I'm just visiting and not camping?

Good question, CB ... inquiring minds want to know.

I can not say officailly but I do not think so. Did they charge last year when you came for the day? You (and Roxy) can be my guest.

Cool. Thanks Ronnie.

We'll get in one way or another. But budgeting right now is tough. I make $100 every other week right now lol.

I definitely won't be energy self-sufficient by then. Actually I might still be cleaning up rust by then.

I might come in my van. But I run my fridge and everything off the alternator. Without some place to charge my batteries I'm not sure how long I can stay.

But I'm pretty sure I'm coming down and meet some of y'all

We probably will be there next year. Still working on getting everything ready to move in hopefully by summer!

Well I can't get insurance until I've completed my conversion. I mean I knew that, but it just didn't sink in until I started making phone calls.

Which means I'm probably going to pillage my van for supplies. I need to make another post later just what I have, and see what would actually work for insurance purposes.

But if I can throw it all into my bus this month and call it good, I can come down for 2 days.

As long as it's legal to drive a yellow school bus in Florida.

JD have you called Kelly Newsome? She's doing policies for in-process conversions all day long.

I guess I missed that thread thank you.

I'll give her a call tomorrow.

Edit: she's in Florida. I'm in Georgia. So I don't think that will work.

Call kelly Newsome. Tell her of your plight. She can likely help you even if she has to find you an agent in GA.

brokedown 01-01-2020 12:22 PM

She can help you even if you're not in Florida. She's writing a dozen Skoolie policies every day for people all over the country.

She has connections all over. She found me an agent with Allstate to insure one for me. I'm in Ga.

I'll call her tomorrow. That link above led somebody else who wrote policies in Tennessee and Georgia. They retired. I remembered that but forgot he gave an email to one of his co-workers. So I'm going to send him a note here in a minute to.

BTW Marc, you might still need pictures for yours with your state farm agent. I guess he was getting some correspondence about your conversion being done or not. Which is why he was checking on mine being finished.

Who was getting correspondence about my conversion. My bus is fully covered by State Farm at this time, no pics provided.

Sorry to be confusing. Your agent (you gave me his number) was talking about how you had documents and pictures and were already to send them and didn't need to.

Then he mentioned some time over the holidays he got correspondence about needing pictures. He might have been covering himself or it might have been for somebody else. That's why we started talking about mine and it not being finished.
