More Aerodynamic Mirror Options?
I'm working on ways to make my new bus (!!!) more aerodynamic and fuel-efficient.
First stop, we're going to remove the roof deck. :(
But the huge mirror array definitely creates drag as well. Has anyone replaced a big array like mine with anything smaller/simpler? Any recommendations for specific mirrors?
Hmmmm, I'm not really sure removing the deck and mirrors will improve you mpg that much. It's a pretty bulky front end already. But, just my opinion.
From a cosmetic perspective, and ease of washing, I can see getting rid of the mirrors altogether.
Yep, time to go high tech with rearview cameras! Seriously, they have kits for side cameras that will display on a screen, and can include a dashcam and a rear cam.
If you want to go a more traditional route, these are listed as GMC Savana 2500 Van with Commercial Cutaway Chassis Driver & Passenger Side Manual Manual-Folding Textured Black Towing 2 Piece Mirror Set
Hope this helps.
There are several
Mirroreye is one, I have planned side view cameras with very minimal mirrors. I will have spare monitor and spare camera in case of failure. Look at tadi brothers, and other truck and rv publications regarding side view cameras.
Trailing side is first for aero work. Smooth air flow on trailing side. Tight fitting wheel wells, under tray, manage air under and around tires, suspension, exhaust. Pay attention to air flow needed for rear differential cooling. Yarn testing is cheap effective poor man air flow testing. Look for books about, road going vehicle aerodynamics
I used Westcoast mirrors and bought a 4 camera 9inch display that records system.
