Colorado Thomas SaftLiner conversion project pics
I'm just now getting around to posting some pics of my conversion project. I've been working on it for 2 1/2 years, and have more early conversion photos on an old hard drive I will recover and post as soon as possible.
They are in no particular order, but I'll do something about that as soon as I figure out how.

Your comments are welcome.

WOW  Fricking nice job! Awesome woodwork, paint and electrical. The kitchen looks nice too. Are you done with it now, or still working on some things??

TomCat 06-06-2005 11:38 AM

I'm still working on it, although I expect to be mostly complete in about 30-45 days.
As soon as I get more pics from my old HD, I'll post them and try to get everything in order.

Nice work..from the pics it looks like you are out here on the plains of Co..I'm in sterling, which is up in the north east corner.

Very nice! Now I kinda wish I'd gone with white rather the the green and almond I finished (coat one) yesterday!

Your cabinetry is lovely and the polar opposite of my saws-alled & construction adhesived knotty pine constructions!

Yes, I'm in Calhan, West of Limon.

I think your Thomas looks great in the green coat. However, I am a miserable bastard when too hot, so I installed too much AC, more insulation than one should need, and the white paint to help reflect some of the 'misery' away from the interior of "Tomcat".

vonslatt 06-07-2005 12:20 PM

Ah! I feel better now, I love the heat! - can't get enough here in New England. No AC for me, just a couple of exhaust fans in the hatches.

Now I have to figure out what to do for screens.

Super Cabinetry
Wow! You really did a super job, especially on the cabinetry. You're right about white making a big difference in heat deflection, it really does. But vonslatt, I think your almond and green paint job is very attractive and elegant.

Amazing what a decent tablesaw with a good fence can do for improving quality!

I've added a few photo's since I last posted on this board, for anyone following my conversion project.
I'll post update about once a week until I finish.

New pics. Finally got some floor down. ... -desc/0-30

Very nice work indeed. I like your choice of the Red Oak and tiled floor, they both look very nice together. Paint job is great too, you can still tell that it's a bus, but it really looks like a spiffy Winnebago or something, Great work!

Btw... how do you like your "Sleep Number" bed... been thinking bout getting one, or one of those "Tempur-Pedic" beds.

TomCat 08-08-2005 09:57 AM

Hi Dan-o,

Thanks for your kind comments.

I haven't had a chance to try the sleep number bed yet...I hope to have a review for you very soon!

OK, now I'm REALLY getting close to being finished. If all goes according to schedule (What's the chance?) I'll be rolling a completed coach in about 2 weeks.
Here are the latest pics... ... 100::OFF.0

I saw a bus like yours yesterday that I would have sworn was yours. It was so nicely done that I didn't know it was even a converted schoolbus until I saw a Bluebird symbol painted on the side toward the back. I didn't have my camera with me dang it. I know yours is a different make but I couldn't remember when I saw it. Your bus is looking sweet!! Top notch!! You have put A1 stuff into it and the craftsmanship is super! Are you a tradesman?

Looking really good, what a great job. Looks just like a new house.

"The icemaker line is ready for connection to the 18cf Frigidaire. This will be quite a treat from me, as I've never had an icemaker, and consider myself somewhat of an ice connoisseur." It must be a Colorado thing. I love ice too. I always tell my wife that when we get in a house again I am going to get an old hotel ice maker.

TomCat 09-27-2005 02:28 AM

Since I was born and raised mostly on the Gulf Coast, it's probably not just a Colorado thing, but maybe the ice thing has something to do with buses...
