Re: Covering original bus windows?

We knocked out the windows, put foam insulation in them and also caulked the window so nothing would seep in. We insulated it thick enough so it caught up to the depth of the walls. I'm sure if you...

Re: Buckeye Pair-a-Docs

Tell insurance companies it is an RV. In your case a Thomas RV (or whoever the company is). Be vague. Do not use the words bus or conversion. Worst case scenario is you'll have to find a broker to...

Re: CDL

You don't need a CDL unless the bus has air brakes or is a certain size of GVWR's. I think it's 25,000 but don't quote me on that.

Re: My bus weight - freaking out

Speaking of brakes what is the cost for a good pair of brake pads for a bus? Mine are only 30% gone and since I only drive it 1,000 miles a year I should have it forever, but I was always curious. I...

Re: Reality check - can I make it up hill?

It is very simple - go to a local junkyard or weight station and get your bus weighted. Then see what the GVWR is and you'll see how many pounds of people/belongings you can have in your bus. Another...

Re: Bumpy,Do Air Shocks Help?

I had a similar problem that I finally adressed this year. The bearings and bushing links on our stabilizer bar needed to be replaced. What would happen is the bar would slam up against the frame...

Re: Pricing out a bus

I paid $2,000 for mine. If you can, when you are dead serious about the bus find a truck mechanic and offer him $100 for an hour or so of his time and ask him to inspect the heck out of it and tell...

Re: trying to decide between gas and diesel, short or medium

I'm going to go against the grain here and say gas. My bus is gas but then again I don't drive it more than 1,000 miles a year so it should last 50 years at this rate  Seriously though, the one...

Re: What Shorty's Have High Ceilings?

I have a 95 Chevy Bluebird 5700HD mini bus that used to have a wheel chair lift. I'm 6'4 and there is another 1" of headroom for me and that is with a 1/2" of board and carpet on the floor. They are...

Re: How to insure my bus to bring it home for conversion?

What if you register it as a commercial vehicle? Then you just get commercial insurance. I think I will do that if I ever get another bus, or had to do it all over again. Then you can do whatever you...

Re: windshield wiper pivots

I had a problem with my wipers in 2010. Stuck, wouldn't move. Mechanic told me I needed a new motor and it was $400. I said okay thanks. Drove to a junk yard and told them the problem. They played...

Re: Bus Tires

Just to update I was talked into changing the 2nd tire. I found out that it's DOB was 6th week of 1997! So needless to say, I had it removed. The mechanic told me it had excessive dry rot, but what...

Re: Bus Tires

So now a new question.

Drove the bus today on the highway with a new wheel. It felt a bit wobbly in the steering wheel at times. Was thinking maybe the tires needed to be balanced. Then when I got...

Re: Check your U-bolts!!!!!

I don't know if it is a U bolt but we have been riding without something on our axel for 2 years now. Mechanics tell me it is $20 to replace and helps the body not slam down on the axel when hitting...

Re: Bus Tires

We are going to have a mechanic come out and fix it. Both front tires are 12 ply, one guy 2 years ago told me that they are as sturdy as can be because they are 12 ply. Both tires have some small...

Re: Bus Tires

I've seen some of mine for $200. Mechanic told me it might be a slow leak because it's been sitting so long. Said the tire looked dry rotted. I also only had 65 PSI in them when it requires 110. Was...

Bus Tires

Anyone have an idea of what it costs to replace one tire? I was thinking $150-$200. Long story short I parked my skoolie and came to run it this weekend and the right front tire was completely...

Re: Insurance in NJ

I'm sorry but NJ and all of its liberal regulations over the years are just the worst. I've had my skoolie for 3 years now and just TODAY switched it to Commercial Insurance. So much easier and feel...

Re: Bus won't start it

Also, just for reference purposes. I checked the fuses but nothing was even listed that had to do with the enginge so I didn't bother with them. It was also difficult to find where the battery cables...

Re: Bus won't start it

I cleaned the battery heads and charged it for 25 minutes. The charge is still mad low though but I just drove it around for 10 minutes. It is alive! Thanks guys. I should probably bring the battery...

Re: Bus won't start it

keith I like the kill switch idea but I still think I need to find the problem first. I don't think a kill switch is suddenly going to allow me to start my bus.

Ok guys I have to be honest. I am not the brightest bulb when it comes to this stuff. Could ya'll explain in basic terms what that means? I don't even know what a ground issue is lol.

I...
