Uhh good question, can paint be applied directly onto clear coat? The paint suggested does say it can be applied direct to metal, not sure about clear coat.

I have exact same engine/transmission, do you not have overdrive? When I was driving it back home after purchase I was able to get it up to 70MPH in the straights and it was quite nice.

I've considered leaving it as-is. The only real reason for me would be to treat any surface rust that is living in there. If it wasn't for the rust I wouldn't consider this.
