Re: Altering a ceiling/roof.

Definitely do not get a fiberglass shuttle bus if this is your intention! I'd advise against a one-ton-chassis rig of any sort for this. Too light-duty.

Re: Borrowing a bus?

I'd like to borrow a yacht and a waterfront house to dock it and party in!

Re: 1985 chevy 366 replaced with a 1984 454 out of an rv

It will bolt in on the same mounts and it will bolt to the same transmission.
It is a low-deck motor, the intake manifold is smaller. The exhaust manifolds will bolt onto it but will have to move...

Re: air bags

The air suspension setup is entirely different, all of the original spring suspension was removed. The airbag setup does have partial leaves; just the forward half, to locate the axle. All the weight...

Re: The Black Plague II (The new Jacuzzi Bus)

I used to build mutant vehicles for the playa... now I hardly ever even get to go to Black Rock City at all... sigh...
I gotta get a bus.

Re: air bags

At work we changed an older Peterbilt 359 tractor from leaf springs to airbag and it's a world of difference.
Later the trailer was changed to air-ride and that made a big difference in the ride...

Re: Help needed on p/s conversion for 56 k/w

I don't know if old KW busses use the same simple straight-axle front end as KW trucks but I'd suspect they do.
A few years ago I simply swapped the front axle, pump, etc. from a late-'80s Kenworth...

Re: idea for heating water

That setup is common in boats. My cabin cruiser has a combination electric or engine-heat water heater and it works great.
If you don't want to make your own just check the marine supply places.

Re: gm 366 threw a rod. need to replace the motor. suggestio

Sportyrick is a little extra critical on diesels maybe, but that's not the issue here.
I'm glad he spoke up about the medium-duty truck version of the big-block Chevy. He's right, it's NOT NOT NOT...

Re: Jacuzzi Bus VI

I'm a long-time burner too. I've seen at least one of your previous hot tub busses years ago on the playa. We've never met that I can remember but you might recognize my "Land Yacht" mutant vehicle....

Yeah... that's my real name... Captain Mons... uh... I mean, Joe Monstermaker.
I happen to live in Woodinville, maybe I can track that guy down.

Service life of MT643 Transmission

I'm still looking at busses... and I know this is an "it depends" kind of question, but generally speaking, how many miles is an MT643 good for between overhauls? One I'm looking at has bout 150k......

Re: Hot tub on the roof?

I'm amazed at how many people didn't read exactly what the original poster wrote! Flush with the roof does not mean on top of the roof! It isn't going to significantly increase the height, as if that...

Re: School Bus vs Hummer

I think it's idiotic that people pick on Hummers so much. While everyone here seems to get it, most don't understand that they don't even sell "real" Hummers anymore. But still... why pick on...

Re: Over the cab sleeping?

Visibility will suck if you go out too far, the idea of keeping the front overhang minimal and putting the bunk halfway over the driver compartment is a good one, assuming you're raising the roof...

Re: Alternator and Power Steering

I'm a big fan of GM CS130 alternators, and have a vehicle with two of them on it that will hold an 1100-watt AC load, through an inverter, at idle speed. It'll do more at speed, but that's the great...

Re: Where do i put a generator?

It depends a little on what style of generator you have. in any case, you don't want it inside your bus, unless the world has treated you cruelly enough that you want out.
If it's a built-in,...

Re: ACK! My beater needs a transmission!!!

The 700R4 is VERY popular in the hot rod world. If I ever give up the four-speed in my '55, I'll put in a 700R4. The three rebuilds in 30 days experience has to be due to something not being done...

Have you tried running without tightening the gas cap, like Smitty suggested? A plugged fuel tank vent can cause exactly what you're experiencing.
So can vapor lock. You said the motor has been...

Re: Fridge needed! any size, and info on what kind

There's a good reason that virtually all motorhomes use propane fridges. They are silent, work great, and run practically forever on a tank of propane. Installation is a little more involved because...

Re: Guardian Generator -vs.-2 honda eu2000 good deal or not?

Methinks you're probably better off just using a big alternator, or even multiple alternators (like I did on my Land Yacht) and inverters to make lots of electricity from the motor. If I could cram...
