The Cummins 8.3 6CTA, ISC, ISL are large engines around 1900+/- pounds plus a transmission to handle that kind of horsepower is needed. THATS some serious weight.

it all depends on how WELL the vehicle was maintined for those 185K miles. A simple compression check will tell you alot.

YES, they are not rubrails...this is NOT a boat. they are actually Stiffeners and help keep the sides from buckling.
Remove at your peril. especially if any weight on the roof or bouncing down...

The front engine is the easiest to work on. Rear engine vehicles are fine as long as you have a forklift to move it in or out for major repairs or have a midget contorsionist available 24/7 to work...
