I have a '98 Blue Bird with a 5.9 and a B-300 trans. It's showing almost 2200 RPM at 65 in 5th. I seem to remember max RPM is around 2600, is that correct? That would make 65 - 70 mph within the safe range?
Thanks
Rick

max rpm in what way? The engine can be run up to 3200 without trouble, 4000 if you change valve springs. However in a school bus it is likely governed around 2600 rpm as you mentioned. 2200-2500 is a real good cruising speed for this engine for long life and decent fuel mileage.

Thanks for the info. I'm not planning on racing anyone but if I get up to 70 mph I'll still be in the safe zone
