1957 Chevrolet / Superior

First post. We picked up this bus from a farm field in New Mexico, where it had sat for decades. Everything will need to be rebuilt. My wife and I are working all winter in Tucson to save some money for this project. Looking forward to a running driving shell by next summer.

Those are very cool. And I know from experience that they are super sturdy...also heavy, so nice job getting that on a trailer. Ours aren't even that long and they're beasts. Those old Superiors are solid.

I'm also in AZ...so when you get that running you'll have to drive it up to the cool country in the mountains and show it off.

thats rad! i love old buses. my buddy has a 66 he cruises around. are you gonna stick with a 283? or are you planning on putting something bigger & modern in it?

We are gonna rebuild the 283 and rock it for a while. Parts seem to be readily available.

Nice looking bus you have there! Although I like "old things" you may want to reconsider that 283. Yes a great engine in its day but small. I had a 4 door full size Chevy truck I put a crate motor 305 with modern cam, carb, intake etc and it still worked hard to move that pickup. If this bus is as beefy as they say, plus all the weight of your conversion materials (IMHO) you will be sorry. You could still stay with a small block but look into at least a 350, 383 stroker, or 400. That is a LOT of bus to roll up and down the highway.

Ours is definitely FLAT glass for the windshield. No visible ID# or tag, sorry, not much help. We would love to see some pictures of your rig!

This is probably a long shot, but might help. I just picked up a used transmission for my car from D&D transmission and engine in Huntsville, AL. While there, I noticed that they had a few junker school busses, including some Superiors. I seem to recall one having a curved windshield.
