I am very sad to do this but I think my bus should go to someone who will be using it since I now have another. I have invested around $30K into the bus since I have owned it. It has new brakes, radiator, trans parking brake, clearance lights, wheels, trailer brake controller and connector and many more.

You can see the development of this bus here: http://www.skoolie.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4

I have created a gallery of pictures showing the bus as it is today. http://www.skoolie.net/gallery2/v/Skoolies/LoneBus/April2010/

What you see is what you get. The sale includes the A/C, radio, TV, CB, 2500 watt inverter/transfer switch/charger, house batteries, solar panel, solar charge controller, etc. I built this bus to use it off the grid, to contain everything I need, so the inverter is large enough to power the a/c or the microwave and can carry more than enough water. There is a shore power plug on the outside to use with a gennie or electric outlet and the engine has a large alternator that can recharge the system.

I am asking just $4500 for the bus, I probably invested just that on the new brakes, trailer controls, and radiator. Runs and drives great! Main projects are the power steering pump leaks a little (only needs fixed if you care about it leaking) and the rear driving lights are not working. Also I never installed grey water tanks, the sinks will drain out the bottom of the bus to the ground, I usually just put a 5 gallon bucket under them and emptied it before I moved.

Bus has a 345 ci V8 from International, a 4 speed gearbox and two speed rear. New wheels for larger standard 22.5" tires giving a higher top speed and easy to service.

1972 International Ward $6000

Your bus looks great. The value of a bus is mostly in the mind of the seller and buyer. I have a old Greyhound GMC 4107. I changed the engine and trans and lots of mechanical stuff. I have about $42K in real money in bus. I have had no buyers for $20K. Been sitting for about 8 years.
Buses have become cheap since my earlier buying days. Some times it is difficult to sell just for the dollars invested. And I also have a 1973 GMC 4905, and a 1986 Thomas which I thot was the best bus ever. Yep, they are all just parked. Best of luck selling your bus. Looks great .... Frank

Great looking bus.

Where in Iowa? I'm in Minnesota.

Thanks

I am in Ames about 30 minutes north of Des Moines. I have the bus at my house at the moment which is right on I-35. In fact that is the interstate behind the bus in those pictures.

Ames, IA? Dang, wish I'd known that...I was with the 2008 Hot Rod Power Tour that stopped in Ames. :)

And dang, nice bus! Is that a 2-speed axle?

This bus has a 345ci V8, four speed trans, two speed rear. This is about the fastest bus you can buy. I would challenge anyone else to a drag race with this thing.

I might take you up on that had I not sold my B-700. You'd be short 2 gears and 185ci. :p (Spicer 5+2 and a gas 460.) Plenty of power, still pulling when I backed out just past 75MPH.

Re: 1972 International Ward $6000 obo

Its funny all them times driving through there and I still have never noticed your bus sitting there. Guess I have tunnel vision or something.

Re: 1972 International Ward $6000 obo

Yes the bus is available. If you have any questions or want additional pictures just ask. If you would prefer to talk on the phone send me a PM and I will send you my number.

Okay let me see if I can answer all these questions.

Trailer hitch, no problem pulling a car with it. I used it to pull car trailers and it has been used to a pull horse trailer also. The hitch is set up for a towing ball so as long as what your pulling attaches to a normal ball the hitch is heavy enough to pull it.

The rear lights should be an easy fix, probably just a ground someplace or a wire up front. If you were going to drive it home a long distance I could probably sort that out before you got here.

There are no major fixes driving it to Oregon, I sold my last bus to someone in Oregon and the only problem he had was a flat tire. A flat tire is what I would worry about most on this one as well. Luckily I have upgraded this bus to 22.5" tires just like the big trucks so if you do get a flat a new one tire will be easy to find.

The brakes are hydraulic but are powered so it brakes very easy. I just had them redone last year, no leaks and work great. Power steering works fine but leaks a little. I would check the fluid every time you stop for gas and top it off if it needs it.

The transmission is a manual 4 speed with a 2 speed rear end which gives you 8 forward and 2 reverse gears. It is very easy to drive and when traveling you really only use three of the gears.

There are no grey or black water tanks, although there is plenty of room under the bus to put them, this is what I was going to do. The drains from the sinks go through the floor so you will just mount the tank there. The toilet in the bathroom is a camping type and has its own tank. The tank is the kind that you remove the bus and dump it, easy and holds enough for a trip.

I rewired the battery bank last year. I tested all of the batteries and threw out the ones that were no longer good. I think there are currently three large UPS batteries in good shape and then the engine battery. The bank should be in good shape but if you are running the A/C or the fridge over night you will want to connect to shore power or a generator as I used to have a much larger bank of batteries to power everything.

The solar charge controller can handle 7 amps but the panel is 15 watts which is 1 amp. This means you can add plenty of more panels to the system but the the current panel is only enough to charge up the batteries after your trip and to keep them charged. While traveling the engine or a generator will recharge the batteries quickly.

Re: 1972 International Ward $6000 obo

Yeah, it would be tough to find one with more done then this one.

Re: 1972 International Ward $6000 obo

Bus is still for sale I even have a copy of the Line Setting Sheets from Super Scout Specialists. It tells me the part number and description of every option on my chassis.

Re: 1972 International Ward $6000 obo

Now that spring has come and I can get the bus out of the shed I am ready to sell. Lets make a deal, first one to come with money gets it!

I am renting the shed the bus is stored in and will no longer be renting it after about June or July so I would like to not have to move it somewhere else.

STEVE
how long is your bus, and it looked in the pictures that the stove might be electric , is this right. also about what kind if mileage do you get? just wondering cause my 88 chevy is only 24 ft and am looking for something longer but with a 366 gas engine and two speed rear i only get 4mpg and with the price of gas i probably wont be traveling to much
