1989 Bluebird

Well, last Thursday my preacher and I went for a ride in a 1989 flatnosed Bluebird with a 5.9 liter Cummins and an auto transmission. The local bus company has it for sale with 150,000 miles on it. Our church needs another bus for hauling the kids in on Sundays. I wish I could afford to buy it for myself since it rode excellent and I really like the way a forward controlled bus turns. It's a bit noisy with the engine in the front, right under your feet, but I figure we can get some insulation and mount it under the doghouse to quiet it a bit, if we decide to pick it up. Anyone out there have any experience with doing this? It also has a pre-heater to warm the engine which is a pretty cool feature.

Not the most exciting thing to write about, but I thought I'd post a little note. It was exciting to me since I really like the flatnose buses and I wish I could buy it. I don't know where I'd park it.... Guess I need an 80 acre lot somewhere to park all of my toys.

Sounds a bit like the FC 1998 TranShuttle at work. Ours is a 175HP Cummins ISB, 4-speed Allison, air (drum) brakes, 265/70R19.5 tires, GVWR is 25,000. A bit underpowered, but I like it.

Beware of the electronic dash cluster, though!

It was a bit gutless, but most schoolies are since they're geared for power instead of speed. Diesels seemed to be even more gutless than gas engines since they have a ton of low-end power but lack the snap that gas engines have. Or so it seems to me. I'll probably have the diesel guys mad at me now I liked this bus and, even with the noise and lack of power, I would enjoy converting this one.

On a side note, I have been doing a ton of research into bus statutes in Wisconsin and I have all the references if anyone needs them.
