1992 Bluebird (Need some insight)

Former BloodMobile! Complete with leveling jacks!

If its mechanically sound, that could be quite a sweet platform for you. Any details on hours, trans, maint records, etc?

The lack of a genny shouldnt be a big issue. Are the subfloor AC units still in place? (Oops. Nevermind. Roof units visible upon further oogling the pictures)

The nice thing about that bus is, It is already wired. If the AC's are good you are most likely well insulated. It has 2 doors for entry and exit I think. And the engine was rebuilt, Id ask when, find out the maintenance hx on it. And if it's legitimate, call him and offer 4k cash. (After you drive it of course!)

I'm even feeling it with that bus. Looks like a WanderLodge already. Pretty high mileage but I would assume any kind of other problems would have been addressed when they rebuilt the engine. Nice big open area for yoga or something, and privacy if you don't like windows. Save money because you don't need paint? It's even got a place to put DangerandPlay on the front.

2000 Thomas vs 1992 Bluebird

@Robin97396-Yep, you make some strong points! I also ran the vin number on the bluebird. It's a nice clean title and 1 owner. He said its about 42ft long which is plus. Really digging this skoolie!
But, then I came a cross this 2000 thomas which also has my attention. So which one should I pull the trigger on!!?? I also want to raise the roof 20inch higher.

Nice School bus

get the bluebird, will save you much work, already has the AC units, probably already wired for outside power with those units and lights, and probably not titled as a school bus so saving that hassle also

And easier to get insured too!

Thanks for all the input everyone. I ended up taking the bid. He's willing to take a couple hundred dollars off the price also, which is awesome! I'm very pleased with this purchase. I can't wait to pick it up and drive it back to Chicago! Any tips mechanical wise, before I hit the road with #dangerandplay :)

I don't know if you're solid on big rigs already or not, but if your experience is like mine (primarily Tonka), I would suggest going through some of the YouTube videos on how to do a pre-trip inspection - especially for the air brakes if you have them.

Also, you may want to keep with you a variety of tools and parts (for example, a spare idler pulley and a new belt). See http://www.skoolie.net/forums/f12/suggestion-for-sticky-13689.html

You might also check with Good Sam: they have a towing service available for peanuts.

I'm glad you got that. On average bookmobiles often bring $5k or more, even when they're propane. I'm very curious to know if the insulation is any better in a design like that. Either way, I like the look. It's a bus but it looks like an RV.

invest in AAA plus RV or one of the RV roadside service plans, you will not be able to change a flat tire on that by yourself on the roadside until you invest in a bunch of large tools and a 10 ton jack

will AAA plus RV cover a school bus? seems so many places try to avoid them

For sure, I think I'm going to go with Good Sam roadside assistance. It's $80 for the year! Not bad. I also want to add a hitch for my Prius because I noticed it didn't have one. Any good links or name brands?

you are going to end up with a universal hitch where the side plated have to be welded on, any good welding shop can do it, the frame rails are standard truck width, but you need to buy the side plated for the hitch bar that have the drop you need to get the receiver under the bumper or through whatever hole you put in the bumper

Ha no, I want to put a tow bar on the bus to carry my Prius.. But thanks for the heads up. I'll start looking for a universal hitch!
