Fellow Builders,

I am currently 90% done with the DEMO phase, and I am working on sealing the bus next before installing any flooring. I have these large RV windows that came stock with the bus since it was a tour shuttle. In terms of framing for the window there isn't a lot of meat in between them for framing out the window. Anybody have any suggestions if it would be a big problem to do strapping on the along the length of the bus and use a much smaller piece of lumber between the windows. (1x1) even. Chuck Cassidy's videos on youtube show one way to do it. Figure your intended final wall thickness. Figure how much framing thickness you need to make the window box fit within the wall.

Chuck Cassidy’s videos have been a huge help since the beginning, great channel. I’ve seen the one you are referencing, he was able to get a perfect fit since he raised the roof and deleted his orinignal window kit. Since the RV windows are large and the space between them is mostly the rib of the bus. Keep in my mind my experience is limited and this is very much a learning experience for me. From the pictures do you see enough room to frame the windows out?

You can frame outside them, but I wouldn't try between.

If it was me, I'd try insulating and then adding a 1/4" birch panel behind the window trim and flush/on top of the surrounding bus frame. You'd have to take the trim ring off, and you may or may not have the extra 1/4" to play with (but the bus must have come with something, right?)

With the windows on panels, you could then create a frame around them to accommodate any extra thickness.
