I have looked around and have not had much luck. I have a 2000 Carpenter bus with a DT466E engine. I am looking at upgrading to a larger alternator and upping the wire size because I have installed an under dash AC with a 12v powered compressor. I am concerned the wire may not be large enough (4). The alternator wire goes into the wire loom and then pops out in 3 other locations. Does anyone have the wire diagrams for this bus?

some of these they took the alternator wire and within the loom seoparated it into 3 or 4 10 gauge fusible links that went various places... most often though the alternator wire goes down to the large terminal on the starter.. many wires split out from there..
if you have a main battery cutoff switch ive see nthe alternator wire go up to one of the lugs on the firewall for the battery cut switch..

those are the most common designs.. the wierd split in the loom to fusible links was a bit of an anomoly.. ive seen it once..

im assuming this is a crown by carpenter conventional?

That I'm not sure, but yes the wiring is odd. I may just leave well enough alone. I don't really want to tear open the wire wrap and risk causing more of a headache. I think the fuseable links can handle to 40 amps the compressor will pull. At least it hasn't caused an issue yet anyway.

most school busses came standard with 160 amp alternator.. I installed a 200 on my DEV bus and the alternator wire was big enough to handle the 200 amps for the length it is.. in my case its short.. just goes from the alternator on the front of the engine down to the starter.. I measured it as 6 feet.. its a 4 gauge wire.. and im not pulling that amperage for long if ever.. ive got 7 heaters fior winter.. and in summer I have 2 engine driven compressors, 3 inside evaporators(one of them is double motor).. and then 2 3 fan condensers underneath and dont have issues with the alternator output or the wire heating up... on hot days i run all the A/C I have turned on high speed and drive that way for several hours or more..

you better check the mount on that alternator, on mine you can't run anything but the standard size because of the way it mounts, it's pretty much captured in a cradle.
