Anyone have any experience installing an Airdog or Fass system on their bus? Want to sleep good at night knowing that vp44 is happy but not sure if the truck versions are compatible with buses. If anyone has any knowledge on it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a truck mechanic who thinks the 24v is the second best diesel installed in light duty trucks. I recommend monitoring fuel supply pressure with a gauge. Your VP44 pump needs extra fuel, and to that end the FASS system can work. I don't know if a truck system would be "plug and play", but the principle of "give the engine more fuel than stock" is perfect.

Linked is my thread on the conversion.

My factory rubber fuel hoses started leaking last year and i took that as an oppurtunity to replace the carter style pump and hoses with a FASS. I used FSY-TSD08100G ordered through summit racing.

I mounted the FASS on the frame where the racor filter was.

I ordered 8AN PTFE hose from amazon for the tank to FASS and FASS to the engine mounted filter bowl.

I ordered 6AN CPE hose from amazon for the fuel return from the VP44 back to the tank. I bought the SAE6 ends from the local hydraulic shop to push in a crimp.

I used the blue hose that comes with the FASS kit to return from the FASS back to the tank.

I removed the carter pump an banjo lines going to the engine mounted filter and replaced with an AN to Banjo fitting.

Originally i triggered the relay from the fuel pump wires that were plugged into the carter (from the ECU). After a few check engine lights getting triggered, i wired up an empty relay to draw power from the ECU and keep the codes off and i wired the FASS relay to key on so its always running. My bus has a factory pressure switch that will light up a indicator on my cluster if the pressure drops. I still have a fuel pressure gauge that i need to crawl under the bus and install on the FASS.

I got a Fass adjustable pump #FASD08100G and put it inline from the fuel tank to the existing fuel/water filters, with the required pre filter for the fass pump. It came set at 15lbs pressure output which has been perfect. I also have a fuel pressure gauge.

Ok, I'm a Lamen on this topic. Does this device overpressure the fuel line slightly to ensure more fuel enters the engine or to just ensure there's fuel there ready for the engine or none of the above?

It is a low pressure fuel transfer lift pump to supply the engine / vp44 high pressure pump. Having low fuel supply to the vp44 pump is a known cause of failure for the vp44. It needs the extra supply for cooling. The stock carter type fuel transfer lift pumps are just adequate when new, so this is a good "insurance" upgrade and a good idea if you do anything like put larger injectors in.
