2002 Thomas Freightliner - 37,000 Miles

My partner and I purchased this bus in March of 2019 with the intention of converting it and living in it full-time. Unfortunately, our life circumstances have changed, and we've had to make the difficult decision to let it go.

The bus has been completely gutted and sealed by a professional, and is 98% rust free. In order to pass the state inspection here in Maryland, we replaced 3 tires with new ones, as well as a new exhaust pipe. We also temporarily painted it grey and removed the upper front/back lights for the inspection.

-35 ft long
-21 ft wheel base
-Cat 3126 Engine
-Allison 2400 Transmission with overdrive
-Rear: Rockwell 5.13
-Hydraulic brakes
-Cruise Control
-Tall Ceiling
-Comes with snow chains, materials for covering windows (if you want), original manuals, and 2 sets of keys

The one repair that will have to be made is to the door. We had someone attempt to break in a few months ago, and pulled the door a little off its hinge. It still closes, but has to be adjusted.

We would really love this bus to go to someone who is going to convert it into their very own tiny home, just like we originally planned to do. We're located in Silver Spring, Maryland, just outside Washington D.C. and are asking for $10,000 considering all of the work that's already been put into it.

$10k for a 2002 bus? seems awefully high compared to like models in the $2500-$3 range. I seriously doubt the mileage claim.

I think the speedo needle is blocking a digit. Also it has a hobbs meter -- that will tell the real story anyway -- wish mine had the hobbs meter...

Like models? You mean like mine...? $2000 for a running bus + $8000 worth of NOT having any rust -- opps! I forgot to add in the $1500 worth of new rubber -- Goodyear's aren't cheap chi-laysian tires...

could easily be worth it... depends on what you want...

If you can verify that mileage DON'T take a penny less than what you're asking.

Engine looks clean! Mine has 64k miles and looks about like that.

37k miles on a 17 year old school bus is exceptionally rare. Generally when you see this it is because there was a failure and replacement of the instrument cluster.

The 2002 3126 is an electronic engine and the mileage can be read from the computer to see if it matches.

I would be taking a second look for rust issues. A few years ago I saw what looked like a rockin deal on some later model buses from NJ. They were 50' Beautiful. They looked great from 50' away. I crawled under about a dozen buses and every single one had enough rust on the chassis and drive train that I walked away.

From what I understand, that is somewhat common in that part of the country.

Yes, this was a concern for us too prior to purchasing it. But there is no frame rust on the bus, and it passed the state inspection here in Maryland which is far more strict with skoolies than many other states. We welcome anyone to come see it for themselves!

Lot of one shot my bus is worth more than gold posts lately. Even has the Key word (professional) in it.

I could move it for the asking price in a week or less. But I'm close enough to BGA that I can stick a bus for sale at any price and it looks like a bargain compared to theirs.
You haven't seen overpriced buses till you've browsed BGA. They'd be asking 20-30 grand for this bus. And someone would put it on layaway!

I know if I were bus shopping and could find a bus with verifiable low mileage and no rust I'd be willing to spend $ on it. But I got lucky and found just what I'm describing at auction for pennies.
