2004 e-450 6.0l

So I just bought a bus, its a blue bird 5 window E450. I bought it at 136k. Runs and drives good. However after driving all the way home to Alabama from Tennessee I began reading up on this motor etc excited about my build. Apparently people hate these motors, say they have tons of issues and now my heart sank. Can someone please give me advice that doesnt include thousands of dollars in customizations etc? Or atleast someones info who does affordable bullet proofs in Alabama? Is the engine really that terrible? Drives fine to me (i know nothing about diesels...) or atleast maintenance advice?

If you're paying someone else to do it you're looking at many thousands of dollars. Most have their issues at around 120k miles.
