Wish you luck.
That's interesting, my bus is a 2005 AMTRAN RE, Broward County bus and it DOES have a grid heater! My Bus is a Florida bus and doesn't have any cold-weather add-ons. So I don't have any kind of grid heater on the air intake.
I think the IPR is a valve, and if the valve is shot, removing power won't necessarily leave it in an open state...
I am in the process of getting access to a copy of J1939, hopefully by tomorrow to be able to do some KOEO test... I will keep you posted.
That's funny because my bus came from Valusia County, had 2 ACs, and 2 floor heaters + cab area heat and defrost. That's interesting, my bus is a 2005 AMTRAN RE, Broward County bus and it DOES have a grid heater!
Grid heater is not the same as block heater...That my bus does not have and well as cabin heaters...but it's got great A/C!!!
DUDE, my bus HATES cold starts! i got a fresh in-frame, 5k miles on the clock, and it takes at least 6-8 seconds of cranking in this Texas heat! That's funny because my bus came from Valusia County, had 2 ACs, and 2 floor heaters + cab area heat and defrost.
For the longest time, I thought it had grid heaters because I got the "Wait to start" light, but I was live on TikTok one day working on my engine, and someone pointed out that I don't have the wire leads that would go to the grid heater on the air intake. So even though it says wait to start, it isn't actually doing anything... No wonder my bus doesn't like cold starts
I'm willing to give it a shot. Looks like rain is moving in here on the west coast, so that might have to wait until tomorrow.Want to try something interesting??
The IPR is nothing but a needle valve operated by a coil. I was wondering if they just get gunked up and start failing.
If you grab a very thin needle you can lightly push down on that needle in the throat of the IPR, clean it out with brake cleaner followed by some WD40.
Re-install and see the results, if any...
No, maybe a dribble... FYI, I carry a spare IPR and ICP in my bus. They are used but were tested to be good on my engine. i put new ones in and keep the spares for just in case....I'm willing to give it a shot. This might be a dumb question... when I take out the IPR valve, is oil going to come running out of the port?
So I got a copy of Servicemaxx, but my engine isn't under the pop-up for select engine... I tried J1939 and J1708.No, maybe a dribble... FYI, I carry a spare IPR and ICP in my bus. They are used but were tested to be good on my engine. i put new ones in and keep the spares for just in case....
also, if you do need an IPr I would caution against using an aftermarket one. I did, 2 of them, both times bus started but tons of errors when viewing in Servicemaxx so I went with OEM. Almost $500 bucks!
That was one of the things discovered while trying to diagnose the no-start. Realized there was a missing o-ring on the check valve in the fuel filter housing. Got that replaced to make sure it wasn't losing prime.Fuel system check valve replacement? Did you mention that in this topic??
