Hello,

Just trying to determine if I'm getting a good deal or not. My local bus dealer is selling a 2007 Ford E450 Super Duty 6.0 Diesel with 80k miles. It is a 23 foot Micro Bird school bus (5 window). The bus is in great shape - no cosmetic, electrical, rust or mechanical issues. It also had all 6 tires replaced less than 3 years ago with nearly all the tread remaining. He was originally asking $10.5k before taxes, title, tag etc., but I talked him down to $8250. It will be $9k out the door.

Just wondering if the price is good and if there are any major concerns I should have with that engine. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Sincerely,
Jesse Robinson

My understanding is that the Ford 6.0 diesel should be avoided. I think it has a habit of stretching head bolts. And that ain't a good habit to be in.

You might wanna do a little research on that before pulling the trigger on a purchase.:hide:

From what I've read (on this site) that is a no-go for too much money.

The 6.0L Ford diesel needs to be "upgraded" to make it trustworthy (see the head-bolts comment above).

The 2007 model years will have nasty emmisions control stuff that was just designed and has many bugs. I think the EGR system will need upgrading also. Plus the DPF or the DEF system (not sure which it has) has a short lifetime and may need repair/upgrading also.

I would not buy it for more than $1000, and that's if the body, suspension, and the rest of the drivetrain are perfect. Unless the upgrades to the motor have already been done.

Run away from the 6.0 Ford diesel powered busses.

Lots of info why on the site, if you are interested in finding out more info on that particular engine.
Good luck...

I heard the same about that era 6.0L diesel, which is why they upgraded to 6.4L, and then 6.7L.

Ideally I would go with a gas engine, like V10.

Hey, I know this post is old.
I'm just wondering what's your thoughts on the E450 Super Duty Shuttle with 6.8L gas motor? Anything important I should know about this combo?
Thanks!
