I need a budget generator for my bus, at least 6kw continuous and has a NEMA 14-50 outlet for my bus, because I'm going to use a NEMA SS2-50P shore power inlet, the cable I'm looking out goes from 14-50 to SS2-50P. I heard 14-50 is the most common for shore power stations to have for 50 amp service. If not, please let me know, any help is appreciated.

Where will your generator live? Underbody? If so, these are typically hard-wired into the bus via transfer switch.

You can find used Onan generators in that power range pretty inexpensively.

6kw is a lot. What are you running in there? I'm not being critical, just curious.
I will run my computer business where I will build and repair computers, some gaming computers can use up to 1200 watts for some high end builds, I will have a computer of my own, and I could possibly have another person with a similar computer, I don't want to have to worry about not being able to use the microwave or AC while using my computer. I also like to have a bit of headroom, and 2 3kw inverters seemed like the best deal.

Probably not, I was thinking of having a generator in a mount on the back of the bus.. Do the Onan generators (the diesel ones) run off of the main diesel tank? Or do they have their own, as silly as it sounds, I wouldn't want it to run off of the main diesel tank, so my generator can't strand the bus without fuel.

Normally when installing the dip tube into the main fuel tank you cut it to only go 3/4 of the way down. Running a second tank is the better way in my opinion because more capacity is more run time. Also you can buy road tax free (red) diesel for it.

You guys don't use red diesel for your bus? Jokes aside, I was already going to be using an aux diesel tank for my diesel heater so I might need to look into it.

You could use red diesel legally for your generator if you have a diesel generator if it's mainly used on private property. Just not in the tank your bus is tied to, unless your bus is only for your property and never expected to drive anywhere.

The 1200 watts isn't needed or used on PC's with PSU's capable of that. Only if you are doing like 3D Mark at highest benchtest settings are you ever going to come close to it and even then you likely won't draw that much even with the most powerful cards. I'd spec for 800 watts as you could hit that for testing builds. When PC's, even gaming ones are idle or just running Windows or Linux but not gaming, you'll be in the 100-300 watt range, and it won't ramp up and use it unless you start gaming. So for repair purposes, you only need to run simple 3D apps to know if it's working or not.

I do plan on benchmarking the computers I build for customers, I also wanted to run server grade equipment, I have a server that runs pretty much 24/7 I understand that that much wattage is oversized, but having 2 gaming computers (or possibly more, if some of my friends visit) and a server running, id rather have more then not enough. My build is the equivalent of a pavement princess, Boonedocking ,while possible, was never an intention of mine. I suppose you'd call it more of a portable house, rather then a camper.

Ah well you didn't mention LAN parties. If we meet up to LAN it out, I'll park my bus next to yours and BMOP (Bring my own power) using an extension cable out of my bus into yours for my rig lol.

Onan's are mounted under the bus or RV, and if the fuels match up, they can tap the tank. The trick is you make sure the generator pickup for fuel is higher in the tank than the engine pickup, so you won't run the tank dry by accident.,

FaceBook marketplace is flooded with used Onans of all varieties and sizes.

Ah, I see. I don't have a ton of room under the bus, because of my factory AC, and the storage boxes I wanted. I'll see if i can get one to fit.

Now that you mention this, it reminds me of something I wanted to to with one of my friends. She wants to follow us in the bus with her own car and teardrop type trailer. I was thinking of having her van sip off of the bus's power with an outlet on the exterior of the bus and a heavy duty extension cable.
