Not a skoolie question specifically but I figured you guys would be a good sounding board for what I'm trying to do.

I'm looking into the possibility of swapping a different auto transmission into my medium duty (2wd). Looking for a transmission that can:

1) be paired with a mechanical diesel (via standalone controller or?)
2) work with some kind of trans brake or accept a transfer case that can do the same (my truck has 4 wheel disc brakes, current parking brake is off the back of the transmission on the drive line).
3) have 5 or 6 speeds and be rated to tow ~18-20K

Is there a model that meets all three criteria? Thanks

O.

theres a lot of threads floating round on here with transmission swaps..

i dont know of any "line lock" systens that will use your 4 wheel hydraulic disk brakes as a parking brake. praking brakes are normall off the back of the transmission...

these are an attachment that is added onto the tailshaft and isnt integral to the transmission itself..

the allison 1000/2000 and the beefier 3000 are the choices generally for these kinds of swaps.. without knowingthe type of truck and the engine and the current transmission / bell type its hard to even begin to make a suggestion..

all of the 5/6 speed allisons can be made to run standalone with just a throttle inout to a mechanical engine..
