8 way wiring

You can always remind the officer if he feels guilty for you using your lights to help a situation that he could always deputize you and requested you use your lights so he can feel better about it.

They are allowed to do this, but often forget to because they don't do it often.

This is a great 8 way light thread and didn't want to start a new post.

I'm trying to figure out the theory of operation as when I press the W/L Start button the amber lights don't flash. If I press the W/L Master the red lights flash and the stop signs pop-out.

This test is happening in the driveway with the engine running and bus stationary. I've tried with the main door closed and open.

When I open the door the stairwell light illuminates so i believe the switch at the base of the door handle is functional.

From my understanding the W/L Start begins the process and when the main door opens the reds lights start to flash and stop signs pop-out

Is this an operator problem or maybe a flasher module issue?

Mines never worked. They had the module in mine but lights and switch never hooked up. I also have a manual door opener with handle. I know my switch is designed so that it is always pressed in which keeps the system off. So essentially when a ground connection is broken or the switch is let off by the handle the flasher is set to turn on ambers and a few seconds afterwards goes to red lights automatically. This would require the driver to start opening the handle before he stops completely to open the switch then fully open the door when he stops.

This is with the old manual setups in the 90s and older. Not sure about how it works with the 2000s

Checking out the electrical panel I found the original Weldon 7000 disconnected and an InPower SBF-90 self-tapped into place adjacent to it, maybe this bus eats modules. I've got a proper jumper wire inbound to test the actual lights before the module.

We've got a Weldon unit (forget the model). The documentation for it went into detail on the operational modes and what lights come on according to what events depending on what configuration you choose. That would be the first place I'd look. FWIW we kept all our flashers functional for use strictly in an 'off-road' capacity.

Attached the documentation I have.

According to the SBF90 manual my system is wired for Eight Lamp Sequential Operation.

My bus has a manual door so I need to test the amber lamps and door switch function. If the wiring diagram is correct my door switch is attached to the flasher module Pin-9. Pin-1 and Pin-10 are unoccupied

Well.... W\L problems were self induced operator error.

My particular configuration requires the door to be closed and latched, turn on W\L Master switch, and then press the W\L Start button.

Amber lights are working perfectly and only switch to the red lights when the door is opened.

I don't even have a sensor on my door to detect if it's open or not. Its a completely analog door.

Looking at the overall operation of the system, I'm not a fan of the door switch either. Id much rather have an addition rocker switch on the dash next to the start button to activate the red lights.

Except for the fact that the door switch makes it idiot-proof….the last thing you need is for the school bus driver to forget to turn on the red flashers when unloading kids and some driver passing the bus injuring (or worse) some kid…

Fortunately for us skoolie owners/builders the red flashers are a moot point…

Pretty sure the weldon activates on a circuit break. (Disconnect of the circuit), and when connected it turns off, which you could find that one circuit and rewire to a rocker switch easily enough.
