81 international harvester s1723 bus with no power steering

thats how I do it!! I have mine made.. I have a lotof tools but not the proper ones for crimping hydraulic hoses.. and I have no need to buy the tools.. ive had one powered steering hose fail on one bus in the last 9 years...

I make my own transmission cooler lines.. the pressure is not very high in those (well less than 100 PSI)

I need to buy the crimping tools to make high pressure lines. I've always done a lot of pressure washing with 3200 PSI lines.

I also own a Mini-excavator which has some older hoses, and it'd be nice to make my own lines for that as well as the cost of lines is outrageous today, so it's cost effective now to buy the crimping tools and the bare materials to make your own.

The crimping press through Continental HYD. hose is $5000 Cad. but if you purchase $10,000 worth of product in 12 months you getting the crimping press for free. The press will go upto 1 inch HYD. Line.

With all that said, reusable HYD. fittings work just as fine for the pressures you would see if installed correctly.

I've crimped thousands of feet of HYD. lines and still use the press today in the shop I'm at.

You can get it done for a lot cheaper than that. This item touts using for power steering as well as construction hydrolic lines as well as AC. $685 The price of 3 hydrolic hoses.

That's something no reputable shop will purchase. On top of that if you do enough business you get the tool free

Further more, what hose and fittings are you using? Fitting from one manufacturer is NOT interchangable to another manufacturers hose as well the machines

Well I know but I'm not trying to make or be a shop, I just want to have the ability to fix make my own hoses for myself, and maybe a friend or two.

The price of 3 hoses pays for that solution. My mini-ex has over 20 hydrolic hoses. Cost wise the price it makes financial sense.

Sure if I were to start a shop a better quality tool may be in order. We have a hose factory here nearby where I can walk in and just ask for the base materials and they actually aren't that pricey. Most of the cost comes from the putting it together which can be eliminated for me with a $685 tool and doing it myself.

Price out the material first. Each HYD. fitting which is one time use ranges from $8-$50 each. HYD. hose can cost between $3-$13 a foot depending on size and quality. The prices are Canadian and I was using a low temp rated hose. The savings is labour as it's quick to press a fitting vs. the labour of using reusable fittings. That's really a reason why the industry uses crimp fittings.......as well as consistency.

That's why I say if you do a DIY repair, use reusable fittings. Any hose replacement after the fittings are essentially free.

The price for fittings and hoses skyrocketed during the pandemic.

Either way. Give it a shot.

We're only intelligent enough to solve the mysteries of the universe, spelling has deteriorated due to reliance on autocorrect fixing people's mistakes.:nonono:

I typed hydrolic into my phone and it auto-corrected it to hydronic :)
I typed devise in, and it didnt auto correct.. even though in context it should be "device"....

auto-correct sux
