89 Crown DD 6-71T missing on one cylinder

I'm waiting for a price quote from a Detroit Dealer in Fresno on the head. I've seen them online ranging anywhere from 1800 to 5000. So, depending on how much this local place charges might determine if I can make the trip by the end of January.

I don't have an address in Fresno to have anything shipped to via freight. So a place that has local pick up is really my only option.

Ronnie, do you have any approximate dates you might be in the area? I can try to plan accordingly if the price of the head isn't too crazy.

I have a problem and at this point not likely to make it. A piston broke at the first ring land. So I am rather bummed. Might swap to a diesel, or rebuild this engine.

Damn, sorry to hear that. That really sucks. No worries though. I did find a place in Oakland that has the head in stock for $1995 so at least I know I can pick one up whenever I get out there to work on it.

Doing it at the end of January would have been pushing it for me.

In any case, I appreciate the offer and hopefully you can get your rig up and running again soon.

rebuild the 392... unusual for a piston to break.. so id work the whole engine from top to bottom.. detonation is Killer to these engines be careful with leaning out and the ignition timing..

Ignition timing is right at factory specs. Fuel mixture is where it runs real nice. Not saying it might be lean for this engine though. Two spark plugs have aluminum on them and the ends smashed. I have had nothing but cooling problems with this engine, and it is the non improved cooling 392. Maybe the cylinders are getting hot spots? Do not have confidence in this engine.

I found a 345 locally with a manual trans. This is really my preferred set up. So thinking I might go with that. Had one in my dump truck and ran it hard all the time many many miles.

Did also see a 6V53 with 643 Allison for sale..... "frame cut off" so whole package.Kind of more money then I want to spend though

noisier engine -wise.. but anyone who has ever driven a Lodstar with a 392 will note that the fan sounds like a plane prop above about 1800 RPM..
