Hi guys,

Since i'm from the Netherlands and i'm probably the only one who is using the ServiceMaxx J1708 software overhere i thought maybe somebody overhere could help me with this.
I've found some threads were people were able to enable the cruise control on their busses by enabling them in the ECM. I've got the software to do this and i see the parameters like "cruise control mode" and "cc max and min speed" so if i want to change the cruise control mode to enable and then press program engine, it says invalid parameters.
Is somebody able to help me:angel:? Maybe even by phone or whatsapp? It would be great if somebody can help me out!

Thanks! :Thanx:
Lorenzo

there are ranges you can set those parameters.. if you connect up and it finds the correct engine, try changing one at a time.. I also had an ioncorrect parameter error on my year 2000 ECM if I tried to enable radiator shutters.. not sure why but it did.. whe ni set that Parm to disable i could always program.. I had clicjked it by accident as i dont even have shutters..

also use the dropdown boxes ifthey are there and not just type A value. so for cruise control function set it to enable and then make the min / max speed something reasonasble like 35 minimum and 75 max and see if it will program.

thanks for your reply, I'm gonna try that.
The strange thing is, I can change all the other parameters except the cruise control. But I'm gonna check if there is one parameter that will give me the possibility to program the cruise control.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. I tried to enable/disable all functions, and they all didn't work.
What I found out is when I start the program and connect with the vehicle, the parameters list is really long, but when I open it up it deletes a lot of the parameters before you can even click on them.

Many people don't realize that the program button won't turn bold (to allow you to program) until you click off of the cell you just changed. Basically, you change the parameter value, then you click on another cell, then the program button will go bold to allow you to program.
Cruise control is not a restrictrd parameter for any International engine so I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to accomplish this. I've got a lot of experience with servicemaxx 1708 and international programming in general. Send me a private message if you need more help and We can prob get it fixed.

Reviving an old thread. I'm there now. Trying to figure out cruise control. I got the following values in ServiceMaxx. I have not used this software before. See pics of my cruise control values.

It has values set for cruise control. I see one in particular that is "Cruise Control Mode" and set to Disable.

Can I check the "Lock" button to unlock, and then click in there and type "Enabled", and then go to File menu and select "Program" and then click the "Lock" button again?

thats what you do... change it to enable. if you click in the box where it says "disable" it will give you a drop down to select enable... then you click program engine..

you have to be Key on engine off and have fully charged batteries.

Ok, and I uncheck the "lock" button first too right?

Also How do I back up my firmware on everything? I did some save option which saved a .csv and a .engine file. Is that my backup or is there more?

Alright, I hooked it up again, and changed the "Cruise Control Mode" to "Enabled" and hit Program Engine. And it said it completed successfully, and to cycle the key off then on again. I did so, and reconnected and it showed enabled so I think it took it. It's too late to take it for a test drive today, but I'll physically try it out.

But I successfully programmed it. I'm not 100% sure if I'm backing it up properly though. @Cadillackid, Can you tell me how to back up my ECM?

Also in addition to backing up my flash,

Do I also need the circled values turned to on? These seem like they are the buttons for cruise control.

you cant back the actual firmware up... only NavKal can work with the firmware and the calibration..

the .engine file is all of your settings..

if you say blew up the ECM you wouldwant to get it programmed by someone with NavKal which downlaods any firmware updates and also the proper calibrations from navistar online into it.. NavKal requiresa subscription as all the content is online.

your last pic.. those may not be actual "switches" they may be values telling you the status of those switches.. which are PTO related...you dont have a PTO.

The reason I'm asking this is because it lists it as CC/PTO, which is short for cruise control/PTO. I'm just wondering if it's conflating the two or if the ECM uses the same values for those switches.

I'll try to see if the throttle button works when I crank it later today. If it doesn't I may enable those and see if it works.

there are parameters and there are datavalues in servicemaxx.. datavalues are showing you the status of the switch... the idle up and down features of the cruise switches are designed to be used with the PTO to run the engine speed up when using the PTO in neutral such as for a bucket or boom lift..

the screenshot almost looks like a data display and not a parameter... and if something shows as 3 dots it means your computer doesnt have that datapoint showing in the link stream..

you may be able to have servicemaxx in that same screen and hold your switch up / down and see the value change here which would show your switches are good...

I keep asking if you can control your idle speed while parked with park brake set and trans in neutral.. you may have tried not sure..

for some reason your cruise on/off arent showing in the data stream... no idea why.. perhaps the engine needs to be running for those paraneters to show up on that screen.. I honestly cant remember

I've tried with the throttle increase trick to increase idle speed and doesn't do anything. I haven't tried it since enabling it. It was late in the night when I turned cruise control module to enabled and didn't want to wake the neighbors.

I'll try the buttons today and report back. If it doesn't work, I'll try to enable those switches, and program it again.

Okay, I tested pushing the switches and they went to "On" so it is an active display of their status. On my 3box it went "On" for PTO and CC, so those controls would do both values so they are tied together in the ECM as I suspected. I know I don't have a PTO, but the switches would be used for both according to the software.

It even helped me know the sequence I need to do to use cruise control while driving.

I have to hit the Down rocker on the "Throttle" switch to turn CC "On", then hit Up Rocker Switch on the other button that says "Set", then it should take over the throttle for me, but only after going 35MPH. I may lower this to 25 MPH for testing.

This is a lot of FUN!

I did it!

Cruise Control Works!

I enabled it in the ECM. Just tested it, and it held 45mph.

I went down a hill and the RPM's dropped off completely to not go over 45mph, but when I hit flat surface again, the RPM's JOLTED!

It was a bit rough. I guess not best to use on very hilly ups and downs. I'll save it for Interstate driving.

There's even a lit up light above the buttons now that I never knew was there, I guess to let me know it was on. I also can't see the buttons so I'm pushing them blind because the Door swing arm is in the way. I may look into modding those buttons and relocating them to a more convenient location.

Success!

I have to agree. Those cruise buttons are in the dumbest place. I have to almost hunch down and look sideways to see. My body is kinda out of position and eyes are off the road to set a cruise.

Hey, I'm sorry I'm late to this thread but I'm trying to reprogram the top speed of my cruise control and possibly the top speed that my vehicle is governed at. What software do you use for this and how do you fix it in the bus is it an OBD Port connector to a computer? Thank you!

You have a Cummins, our snap on scanner at my job can do program some parameters but otherwise Cummins InSite.

You could purchase a nexiq clone, it comes with some hacked Cummins software and might be able to set up with that. Been so long I can't remember the Cummins InSite in detail. We switched to snap on and now we have some other tablet I have yet to play with but does everything they say.

in some respects it seems like the Snap-on scanners do more than the factory software (other than protected parameters).. I was watching someone recently diagnose a 6.7 with their snap-on tool and it had a ton of nice features esp for data and trip recording..
