Air Filter question

I have a 1991 Ford Model B700 with the 6.6L, I noticed I could see part of the air filter. After a further inspection I noticed there was a small lip on the metal housing for the filter.
My question is, Is there a cover that goes over the filter part, if so what would that part be called?

Yes

The cover and the second wing nut are both missing.

Your engine will be fine running that way. It will just be pulling in hot air from the engine compartment VS cooler air from outside the engine compartment.

The engine might give more power with that cover replaced: cooler air is denser air, ie more oxygen and therefore more fuel can be burned with it. Heat in the intake air also translates directly to exhaust gas temperature. But like Nat says, the opening is on the intake side of the filter element so the engine is still protected from dirty air. It's impossible (for me, at least) to say whether the extra heat in the intake air might put you at risk for valve damage due to increased exhaust temperature.

Thank you both. Going off to find me a cover and wing nut...
If I am unable to find one do you think that using something like a GIANT rubber cap like the one in the link would work?

a pie tin and duct tape would work, temporarily...

If you can find a rubber cap big enough, it will work.

In a pinch a disk of plywood with a washer and a regular nut will work also.

It don't need to seal completely, just block most the flow.

If you want it to seal, cut a grove round the outside of the plywood disk, and put a bead of silicone in it.
