Air seats when you have no air?

I picked up an Eldorado VIP air cushion truck seat today at an estate sale for $12.50 - basically in fine shape.

I'd like to replace the current old E350 stock seat in my Collins, however I don't have any air to tap into for the seat.

I have seen that you can buy very small little compressors to use with them, but can you actually just use the seat when you have no air? Is it just going to bounce up and down a lot whenever I go over a bump? It does have a shock absorber of some kind in the base.

or you use an air tank that you fill up with an air chuck and hope you do not leak all the air out before you get to where you are going

Heh - yes I know what compressors are It's a short bus - I'm not going to mount that thing or something like it inside where it's going to kick on now and then. There are also much smaller 12v ones that would do the trick I believe.

My question is, can you use the seat without any air. Can I just lock it down so it doesn't do that air bounce stuff. The seat is plenty comfy by itself and the right height just as it is (with no air). I have no need to raise it or lower it.

You can use it without air you won't hurt anything.
If it doesn't leak you can air it up to where you want it and it will stay up quite a while.

Yes. I do this all the time in my Volvo. It doesn't "lock" in a lowered position, but gravity does the job nicely.

There is a 20 year old shock absorber in most of these air ride seats. I leave my seat bottomed out all the time, otherwise it bounces like a kiddy ride. Sometimes it bottoms out and stops dead leaving your spine to absorbe the shock.

It doesn't seem to hurt anything leaving the seat bottomed out and it's at the right height for me too.

If I'm driving into the sunset with the sun in my eyes I'll raise my seat as high as it goes to avoid the glare.

You should be able to run your air ride seat using nearly any innert compressed gas regulated to the correct pressure.

My good friend Ed has an air seat and boy it's a good thing he's not any taller than he is, it bounces him up and down from the floor to the roof.
