Well I have been checking all around this bus and I can't find the exact type of transmission.
I have a 2001 Bluebird A3RE with a 3126 Caterpillar engine. The plate on the wall states:
Transmission - 6510257729
However I read in some Bluebird paperwork that it could be:
AT 545
MT 643
MD 3060
or
MD 3066

Could someone help me out? 1196942066.jpgimage000000001002003004.jpg408245917.jpg

There's a plate on the side of your trans with this info.

Or call or visit your nearest International dealer and give them your VIN. They can email or print the build sheet that lists all the components of your particular bus.

I am not certain that this is consistent but I have observed that buses that have a transmission # on the dataplate starting with 6510 have all had MD-3060s.

Does it have a push-button shifter?

That serial number came back to an md3060 when I looked it up. If you have a push button shifter, then the md3060 is confirmed.

I have to say I do not understand why folks do not look at the tag right on the transmission. It is the final word on what it is, and easy to do.

Speaking of looking at the tag, from the looks of mine it looks like the date year is 2013???

Can anyone share insight into this? 20200108_150208.jpg

Must be a newer core, transmission must've been replaced at some point in its life.

Allison is still making the 2000 series, all our buses have had it for the last 10 years at least.

Newer core... I hope that means (assuming it was done properly) that the transmission is nice and healthy.
So far on a short freeway drive it shifts smoothly going on the on ramp and drives faster than 75 mph... I had to back down cause I'm still getting used to the size.

Fingers crossed.

Allison 1000 HS

I have a 1997, bluebird 5.912 valve Cummins and I think I have the 545 four-speed non-lock up transmission in it now. A buddy of mine just called me and said that he has a Allison 1000 HS. That came out of a UPS truck or FedEx truck said he thought it would boat right up behind my 5.9. He also has the computer for it and said that he can make it standalone has anyone heard of this or is this possible? Does anyone know I’m not real knowledgeable about diesels?

yeppers sure can.. its a common swap.. there are companies that make throttle boxes which will take a mechanical input and convert it to the J1939 that the original TCM likely used.. these querstions are a bit tough as I have zero idea what the label on your TCM says as far as RPM range and throttle type.. but with the correct TCM and throttle box you can very much run the 1000 behind a 12 valve..

bolt wise, an SAE3 (non GMC) allison 1000 will bolt right up in place of the 545.. you can use the same shifter.. might have to make some shift bracket changes but otherwise not bad.. driveshaft will need shortened..

if you have air brakes no parking brake is required.. if the fedex van (likely) is hydraulic brake and also your bus then you can use the park brake that comes on the 1000 (and youll want to make sure its there)..

youll need the wiring harness..thats an expensoive piece so make sure the trans comes with it and the TCM both..
