After doing quite a lot of research a feeling like I missed out on some good deals, I finally got the bus I wanted. I just got it home this week, have gained access to all the storage compartments, washed it, treated most of the corrosion with AMSOIL Heavy Duty Metal Protector, removed the signage inside and out, removed the seats, removed 16 windows, installed hasp with lock on back door, disabled emergency buzzers for emergency exits and learned what was making the horn honk after turning key to off position... lol
My bus is a 2001 RE INTERNATIONAL 75 passenger with a dt466E engine and the AT545 transmission.
I drove it home to Alma, Arkansas from Silver Lake, Indiana after buying it from Kerlin Bus Sales, the oldest Thomas bus dealer in America. Buying from a big dealer made real good sense to me and proved to be a great experience. They installed a new serpentine belt for me, and sold me two new batteries installed to hit the road with. My bus had been sitting on the lot for a year and was pretty dirty inside. My neighbor in Arkansas helped me get one of the exterior storage compartments open and functional and he loaned me his 7" grinder to cut the seat bolts out with. It took 2 days to get all the seats out and one bolt needs extra special efforts due to not having access to the nut on the bolt which is spinning and cannot be reached with the grinder.
