Ive got the international 9l 550ci diesel. Its non sleeved. My question is what type of antifreeze do i need and any idea of how much? I pulled the rear heater and the antifreeze was brown..but it looked to be regular stuff. Ive looked and looked and have found some answers but nothing really pertaining to this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Oh also, radiator needs to be flushed. Any special thing this diesel needs to do this?

As far as I am aware, you can use most coolants in these engines, since there's no sleeves to be worried about. They probably came with the ol' green stuff from the factory.

I kinda assumed that, but wanted some conformation..ive dumped about 7-8 gal. out im wondering how much more is in it..lol..i guess ill need another 5 gallon bucket!

I'd just go to Napa and buy diesel engine anti-freeze. Shouldn't hurt a parent bored or a sleeved engine. Why the coolant issue with a sleeved engine is that in operation tiny bubbles form on the cylinder sleeve when it fires, these bubbles subsequently collapse, they call this cavitation, and when it does it takes apiece of the liner with it. That becomes those infamous pits. Anti-freeze with SCA's (supplemental coolant additives) stop that from happening.

Just use regular green, and then use test strips to check the additive level for the correct amount. All of this stuff should be available or orderable from your local napa.

PS. Cavitation can also be present in parent bore engines as well. So always check for the proper additive level.
